I am thinking of buying a Victorinox INOX watch as a beater. I like the looks of a larger slightly bulkier watch and supposedly it can take some abuse.
Anyone with pros and cons.

It has an ETA 2824 and looks like a solid watch. I like the look of it.

They've been making/selling watches for decades.

I have one as a beater/travel watch. They actually hold up pretty well and look reasonably respectable.

I’ve passed on their quartz Maverick dual time to the kid, who continues to beat the tar out of it. I’m the proud owner of the Divemaster 500 Mechanical which has been a dependable sports watch for years. You can actually read by the lume glow. They make a nice watch.

Only con for me is the location of that date. Not a fan unless it is at 3 or 6. I've also owned many Victorinox watches in the past and they are all rock-solid, so I have no doubt this one would make a good "beater." I'd get the quartz version though for three reasons:

1. it's cheaper
2. It will take knocks better without affecting timing
3. You set it and forget it, then when you need it, no need to wind and set it.

My "beater" watch is quartz for all these reasons.

Worn and Wound's article also says 2824

https://wornandwound.com/review/review-victorinox-i-n-o-x-mechanical/

Two years later, according to the Victorinox website, an increased MSRP now buys you the Sellita clone:

ELIF, who is buying a mechanical Victorinox, and why?

Are they sold at massive discount in department stores? Based on MSRP, why wouldn't you just buy the Tissot Powermatic? Or save a little more and get the Longines Conquest? At MSRP, you'd pay less for the Seiko Alpinist.

What commends Victorinox aside from the watch being a constant reminder of luggage?

Luminox is my true beater light as hell and takes a beating.
Mate who was a G-Shock guy is a recent convert and he loves them as he has 3 G-Shocks with split cases that still work and can’t be fixed
