there is one thing that bugs me. Let’s start with all the positive things! Last week I won this auction for a Rodania Hydrolastic, a nice 38mm compressor case and an even more beautiful dial that reminds me of an Speedmaster Racing dial. It was described as mint condition with an as new dial. It was even described as perfect overall. There were fine quality photos included and all those led me to bid on the watch an win it. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.de/ulk/itm/163392593416 One of the sellers photos I haven’t seen this model, there isn’t a second to find on the internet. There was a few months ago a black dial Hydrolastic in a lyre lugged case for sale on catawiki. https://veiling.catawiki.nl/kavels/17388003-rodania-hydrolastic-automatic-heren-1970-1979 And now the not so good. But upon receiving the watch I found out the is some water damage on the dial. It’s not very noticeable but you can definitely see it, when you look at it irl. I would like to keep it and I am happy with it, but I feel a bit misguided. I haven’t paid a big amount for it, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t have bid the amount I have bid and am sure the other bidders wouldn’t too. How should I approach the seller and what would be my modus operandi? I have paid with ebay Would love to get some advice or opinions and of course if there are more examples here @OF please share you’re photo’s. Tia Koen
I don't know too much about these. Is it water damage or just a subtle aging of the dial surface? Have you had the movement serviced? (thanks)
That is real nice. thanks to that I probably now know why the name Hydrolastic. as per wikipedia Hydrolastic means: "Hydrolastic is a type of space-efficient automotive suspension system used in many cars produced by British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successor companies." because of the double shock protection. and I have the watch since Thursday, so no service. I think it is water damage, I can take the movement/dial out of the case tomorrow and have a proper look.
You should be fully protected by eBay's buyer protection program. The first step would be to contact the seller to try to resolve it between the two of you (either for you to return the watch to get a full refund or to get a partial refund to compensate for the discrepancy). If the seller is not helpful, you can then escalate to eBay for them to mediate.
The dial seems very clean to me. And if the seller's photo shows the slight stain better than your own photos, I don't think you have much to complain about. It also seems to me that you got the watch for a very good price.
156E is very reasonable for that watch. You can comment about the optimistic description in your feedback but I would still leave a positive. Very cool watch at a cheap price. Nice find.
At $165 no matter which currencey, is a pretty good deal even with the water mark. You would have paid a lot more if it was a pristine dial Chalk it up as "learn to inspect future purchases better"
I don’t see any water damage sorry. And if you can see this damage on seller’s photos, why did you buy it??????
I don’t understand why you feel misguided by the seller since the watch is exactly as described, with the stain present in the pictures. If you aren’t able to photograph the stain, then I think the seller did a good job. As several members have said, you bought a nice watch at a good price. Only my two cents.
