Hi all,

Long time lurker but first time poster.

I've recently taken a gable at an auction and bought myself what I suspect is a 1962 Omega Consetalltion for under 1k. Now i've picked it up I would love some help from you experts deciphering the markings on the back case! I've had a decent google but get mixed articles about what the codes all mean! Any help would be much appreciated

It's a 194.... serial number and 561 cal. Picture below

Not any confusion ...........14902 is the reference and 61 is the approx date of manufacture and SC is Center Sweep seconds hand.......CB is the case manufacture....Acier Inoxydable at top means Stainless Steel case.

Welcome

nice Constellation

Amazing, thank you TexOmega. So the case back is approx 1961, but the watch serial number indicates its 1962 - are they matched up post production. Why the discrepancy?

The watch is often later than the iteration suggests. There is no discrepancy. It is quite rare in fact for the iteration and year to match.

Don’t read too much into the serial numbers. If you use an online serial number checker they’re often slightly out anyway. Also consider the fact that cases would have been made separately to movements.

The watch looks good. Lugs don’t look too bad (not too over polished). Crosshair is nice. In any case for under 1k you’ve done very well…

If you want to get it 100% then the hands need to be relumed, and the crown is a generic one too so you’d need a decagonal crown. Or just wear as is, as I said for the price you’ve done well.

As I say above, it is perfectly normal for a -61 iteration to have been produced in 1962 so there is no real mystery here. I do see a 19.4m serial watch as being produced in 1962 or later. My own 105.003-65 is dated by extract at April 1966 for instance and every -63 or -64 I have seen extracts for were actually dated in the year following the iteration. It is much more unusual to have a matching iteration stamp and date in fact.
