Glad you posted it. Was wondering the same thing myself. Is this an example of the fabled ‘poor’ condition?
Well I don't know much about its value but I can certainly say something about its looks: Ugly with a capital 'U'. I really can't understand how people can get excited about a watch looking like that.
Any movement shots? It would be a good idea to get one of those - just in case the same number magically showed up in a better looking specimen at some point
Is that one of those important and highly collectible "Arctic White-Out" bezels?...Or just one that's missing its insert?
I think that @Exiztence means it a 26.5 million number and I agree that the movement has seen better days. So it could be a 68 0r 69. Either way it will probably go for way to much
Caseback says 2998-6, looks to have silver rehaut & radium dial but 26m number? That is a collection of crappy parts and nothing more. The movement is about 7 years younger than the case. I bet a dealer uses that caseback for something shady...
It's a 321. Looks like a serial number that belongs in a 145.012. As far as I'm concerned, the value solely relies on the complete case / caseback combo (the case looks great). There is no bezel, movement in incorrect and shot (maybe changed by the FAP ? Who knows), the dial is ugly and hands are gone. I'm sure a dealer will purchase this, "restore it" & make a lot of money.
While complete case / combo match, unless you get right movement you still screwed right? One mail to Bienne and it will be confirmed as put together? I understand that Omega doesn't have info to issue extract for lot of 2998s but at least for mine they could tell me where it was delivered to...
You don't need the mail to Bienne to confirm that. The serial tells you that the movement is from circa 67-68 and can't have been from any straight lug reference as those ended at 25.44m. It may not even be a Speedmaster movement so the delivery location and all the other extract info will be virtually meaningless. Unless someone has a FAP certified/extracted 18.94m range movement laying around, this case is most likely going to be used to make a dealer Franken.
Yes I wrote that the serial is too late for this reference, what I meant was even sourcing correct range movement unless you have Extract that it was delivered to Peru will not help you.
