I (as usual) need an education. Some questions - I'm specifically interested in regards to the Type XX (Mathey/Breguet/GP) for a post I am working on. Here we go (and if you have any URL sources of info, please include...thanks): 1. For 3-register vintage flybacks, is the movement always a Valjoux 222 (not sure if was 3-registers, however, which I think might actually be a 225) or 720? Were other movements used? Or is it possible to hack a 72 (or other) to become a flyback? 2. How do you know by looking at the watch/movement if it is a 222/225 or 720? Just stamping, and if so does it *always* show as 222 (I think 225 was just a modified 222, so not marked as such...I *think*) or 720? 3. Any knowledge of dates of production for the 222/225 and 720? (and/or quantities) 4. I have found a number of Type XX's with 30-minute registers with numerals (marked 10-20-30). The well-known dials are really 15-minute registers (no numerals, lume marks at 3-6-9-12-15). I'm seeing one watch that runs as a 30-minute register, but "appears" (no numerals) to look like a 15 minute (another pic that implies another watch is going this - one from MT, one from Breguet). Were both 15 and 30 minute registers made for the (222/225) and 720? (I'm assuming yes) [or other flybacks that might have been used in these Type XXs] Or any reason a 30 minute register would be used on one of the dials that one would think is a 15? Such small volume here I haven't been able to find info. Thanks much OF-
The foremost experts in the matter are to be found in France. There are a few French connoisseurs on the Military Watch Ressource forums. Give "Stiocour" a chime. They are absolutely well versed on the subject in the finer details. Cheers,
Good luck I’ll go back in my archives as well. I had a period where I collected some of these and the history of the Lemania and Valjoux flyback movements is extremely interesting
