Using miles for watches?

Seems like a terrible use of miles and likely not the best value, but I suppose if someone was sitting on a pile of miles that they knew they weren't going to actually use for travel...

Those are links for United Mileage Plus shopping; I'm assuming the other major airlines have similar offerings since many of them use the same platform / vendor for their loyalty rewards programs (which on a tangent was in the news last week because of some security vulnerabilities found, reported, and fixed).

It’s become so easy to collect airline points and so hard to use them that I can see how this would appeal to someone who doesn’t travel all the time. The airlines impose so many limits on the times/dates for award tickets, that I don’t even bother anymore. I just save my points for upgrades, and even that is becoming more difficult because I don’t fly as much as I used to.

It's similar to the age-old Q about redeeming points for domestic short-haul flights in Econ vs FC tickets to another continent. At the end of the day, if it's something you want and it makes you happy, go for it.
