Did this affect the OF? I hard a very hard time with posts being very slow to load last night and it was quite slow this AM as well.
I couldn't get on this forum nor play Candy Crush via Facebook this morning. Serious withdrawal symptoms were starting to occur!
I've been e-mailing and texting on the east coast of the US all day, including things for work involving more than enough money to buy an all-original 2915 Speedmaster (!! Yes, really serious stuff!!). But if the internet went down, I have my backup plan, and it's called a nap.
That reminds me of one of my favorite quotes “All new news is old news happening to new people” ― Malcolm Muggeridge
The nap part is a daily occurrence here. Usually right after lunch. Not so much this month as October is my Christmas season.
As much as I would hate to say it, this proves that the internet can't be "open" - private companies can't be expected to have the resources thwart sabotage by nation states.
It did, we use Dyn for DNS, we're discussing adding another provider as a secondary now though most people were still fine as the DNS gets cached by your operating system / browser. IoT botnets and zombie Windows XP machines (Medical and Legal industries, we're looking at you guys) are a big part of this problem, while it probably was Russian, Chinese or Middle Eastern in origin, these devices are the vector they use for these attacks so its your own crappy and insecure devices in the USA that are responsible for doing the damage. Lawmakers really need to legislate on minimum security standards for new internet connected devices as well as create a requirement for businesses and industry to update to at the least software which is still actively receiving security updates or this is going to continue getting worse. In Australia you will get a fine for leaving your vehicle unlocked or unsecured in public due to it encouraging thievery, the same should apply to internet connected devices as they effectively become a national security threat able to be used by a foreign power.
