So it was a bit of a saga in the end. Testing the waters I was told about 2k to 2.5k budget. I might have held out for better, but I'm not the type; and the boss is not really the type to entertain such blatant self serving petitions either. So I thought, "2k, nice".

I settled on the watch pictured below. It was released about that time and I desired it after reading up on it a good bit.

It was purchased by the boss online with the intent being it was to be presented on the night of the Christmas Party. However, it got held up in some transport depot. So on the night of the Christmas party we made do with speeches and a plaque, and then got nice and drunk.

Being we're a bit casual at the best of times the watch lingered in the bosses house in Spain for a bit. Then in Dublin in the new year. I'm never in the office. Then Covid hit, and so on. It took until tonight to finally have the boss over for a beer and to deliver the watch.

I fell in love with it last year (online), but then kind of forgot about it as my obsessions moved on to other watches I absolutely had to own. It kind of became 'meh' for me. I wasn't enthused anymore. And it didn't bother me it was in storage somewhere unseen.

Now it has arrived though and I love it. I love the bracelet, I love the dial. I love what it signifies. I will bring it first thing in the a.m. to get the bracelet fitted, then I intend to wear it exclusively for a good while.

I'm just really delighted (and a bit drunk).

Well it looks great on your wrist, drinking or not! Congrats on finally getting to enjoy it! 馃榾

Gotta say though, this is the first time I've read this thread, and booooy do some of the stories make me miss my old company. At 4 years they gave me a week long trip to TelAviv (though technically a business trip, I only had to work for two days of 'meetings' and the rest was still all on the company's dime) and a 15k performance bonus...man I wish they hadn't gotten bought out - I can still only dream what 20-25 years might've brought!

Dedalus05, nice outcome! Oris supposedly (well, according to an article I read on the internet...) were the first to make a watch with that pointer date, or date pointer, so this might be the Oris to have.

The thread is a real downer for the most part, though. Geez, as somebody already said, I wouldn't have expected so many people with bad retirement memories in this of all places. Well, at least everybody was able to afford an Omega at some point. Or they bought one anyway...

Edit: Forgot to say: excellent pictures for being slightly inebriated!
