I think that watch was a lighter color then painted over with the hour markers masked. Hence the light crosshair on the sub second.
Here is what I notice: no minute track unusual sub dial design 1930s style signature but the "O" is too elliptical and the bottom of the "S" looks different the bezel has been polished the movement shows signs of wear case screws are missing sub seconds hand looks worn hour and minute hands are very reflective A piece of advice that I received from a far more experienced collector than I was, "if in doubt, leave it alone". In this case, I would personally leave it alone.
Been monitoring it too, others here are more experienced than I am but it made me feel uncomfortable too.
Hour and minute hands too clean, as well. Look at the oxidation on the sub-second hand – that kind of dissonance is a major warning flag.
I had been watching this one that ended yesterday with no bids, you could message the seller if it looks better www.ebay.com/itm/322394399471Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
For posterity, I am compelled to resurrect this thread. After encountering an image of a catalog from 1938, I am now more open to the possibility that this dial is original. However atypical, it seems that this design language was used in the period.
This popped up on ebay : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lon...e-/252944670275?&_trksid=p2056016.m2516.l5255Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
No returns for that price would make me quite suspicious no matter what. That seller can thank @DirtyDozen12 for resurrecting the thread.
The seller is on IG as well but I forgot his username. From the comments, it seems like he is a pretty well known fellow although he started his IG page not too long ago and his feed consists many incredible 3Ts
I have too many doubts about this dial and I wouldn't buy this watch. Anyway, the price is a real madness
I messaged the seller pictures of the back of the dial would be helpful -- he posted them in case people want to take a look. Dial backs reading still seems somewhat mysterious, in any event this one is unlike any I've ever seen in real life or on pictures but who knows what's possible.
While the asking price of this seller is somewhat ridiculous, the 3Ts on IG have been trading hands for nearly 5 figures already
IG is Instagram, and in the little time I've tried it, I have found it fun but for sure it is a land of hype and spiralling prices. However it is quite dizzying and captivating to see all of the (often magnificent) collections on display and take part in the exchange.
I actually have an instagram account, but after 6 months I still have only ehm 25 followers . Any tips on who to follow for vintage Longinesses (or other vintage swiss watches) ?
