Swedish auction house Bukowskis was unable to attract any bidders on this cool 2998 today:

All though on the wrong bracelet, the watch had some cool provenance being sold by the original owner who purchased the watch back in 1961 when he was in Gaza. The extract shows delivery to the United Nations.

Estimate was roughly $12.800 - $17.100 (without sale fee at 22.5%).

I am pretty new to straight lug Speedmasters and do not know much about them. The condition is far from a safe queen, but shouldn't it be well worth the estimate? Please discuss!

Would like to see some better pictures but obviously the dial and hands have seen better days in the distant past.

Well the papers and the watch is one number apart, maybe a mistake but still annoying. The condition is quite bad. This watch was also listed at the last Bukowskis auction and did not sell.

Ah yes, that's right. I thought that I recognized it. The number mistake is odd for sure...

That watch isn't my particular brand of tequila.... It's unattractive (to my eyes); I'd simply rather have a great condition watch with no story than a poor condition watch with a great story. Taking it a step further, I'd rather have a less collectible reference (Ed White rather than 2998 for example) in B- condition with no story than this one with a great story in its current condition.

It's tough to get someone to part with $12,000 when what they're buying for that money is relatively unattractive.

yeah and the $12,000 becomes $15,680 with buyer fees. Then the buyer might pay import taxes on top. Not an insignificant amount of change

I suspect the watch is significantly worse than the photos. The pics have been heavily worked ALA from the thread the other day in relation to "make up and watches".
