Unsigned cards - what are the "rules"?

Every so often I come across a comment in a for sale ad like this:

"Still has all orginal packing, plastic seals, etc.. And It has an undated warranty card..."

My question is what are the rules about unsigned cards? What's to stop a second or third buyer just filling in the card if there is a problem and claim a warranty even if the watch was purchased well out of warranty. I understand that if the watch was no longer in production for more than a couple of years, but what if the watch is still in production?

Nothing basically, that is why it is done. The card of course better be dated by the time omega gets it.;)

I have no experience in dealing with OEM warranty claims with Omega, however and for what is worth, other manufacturers require a copy of the sales receipt from an AD as proof of purchase to validate the warranty period - this was my experience with Breitling when they serviced the watch under the warranty period and at no cost to me.
