Just wondering if anybody can help with any information on this watch I have inherited, I have no history, no papers, it doesn't seem to work as it probably needs a battery but it is a lovely looking watch. I also would like to know if it's able to go underwater and an approximate value for insurance. I already own a Seamaster that I purchased over ten years ago and hasn't failed me yet, many thanks, Col

Underwater is a definite no-no, not even in the shower, the seals may have deteriorated over time and unless they are replaced and the watch passes a pressure test it may be water resistant, but I wouldn't risk it.

I'd yank the battery ASAP, if it's an OEM Renata, the chance of leakage is higher than normal and could damage the movement. Get it serviced by a quartz specialist (not the guy at the shoe fixing stall in the mall). The original battery (388 mercury) is now obsolete so you'll need someone competent to determine a suitable silver oxide battery replacement.

You could insure it for a couple of hundred dollars, slightly more, depends on your location.

Fixed up it will be a nice occasional watch, I wouldn't use it as a daily beater (even though it is a quartz ;))
