    Hi there,

I am new to this forum so forgive me if I am posting in the wrong place. My Grandfather recently passed away but before he died he gave this watch. All I know about it is that it is an 18ct Gold, self wind chronograph, and although I have no paperwork for it, it was last serviced in 2012, and I believe it was given a valuation of £7000. Ohter than that I dont really know anything more about the watch and would love to know a bit more about the model.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

    J

Edit: I have added photos as jpegs but not sure if they are displaying correctly here are the links below

Is there a particular file format to use, just troubleshooting now? I used the normal 'add photo's tab and they seemed compatible, and I can see them in the edit, but not in the preview or actual post?

Do you have a photo in your photo files on your computer? If so, use the add photos button, find the photo you want to post, click on it, the find the upload photos button. Then, once the photo has loaded, hit the REPLY button. Should work!

Thanks, I have found a work around by copying the links, I'll be interested to see what you make of the watch, more than happy for an honest appraisal!

    OK, I´ll start.

Firstly it is not a chronograph, a chronograph in layman's language is a stopwatch and this certainly isn´t. I think it is a 1970´s manual wind movement, probably a small one at that judging from the back case size. Possibly from the 6** series.

Secondly the dial strikes me as odd for a couple of reasons.

To start with `OM Swiss Made OM` is actually saying `This dial is solid gold` and this one clearly isn´t. To me it looks like a redial.

The bracelet is not produced by Omega judging from the lack of any Omega hallmarks

I´m guessing the watch is approx 32mm diameter, if so this is quite small by todays standards.

Regarding valuation I would say the 7K is way out. Unfortunately I have to say that this watch is neither classic nor contemporary enough in its styling, suffers from a redial and has a non Omega bracelet. For those reasons the value is mainly in the gold weight plus the value of the movement, which in this case will probably be an additional 50-100 euros or so on top of the scrap value.

Not so pleasant to hear I´m sure, but you did ask ;)

The watch probably left Omega with a quality leather strap on it. This bracelet was likely added later on. Many similarly equipped Omega 18-karat gold watches left Omega with integral gold bracelets ( i e. Bracelet soldered to case, no visible lugs on the case). The bracelet appears to be in excellent condition. My view is that it is appropriate for the watch, and the combination is quite attractive. As to value? Anything is always of more value to the owner than it is to anyone else. And you would not likely agree with a value placed on it by anyone else. A formal appraisal might place a value on it based on estimated replacement cost for the same or a similar item. But in the cold light of day, it is worth the gold value, plus however much more you can get for it were you to offer it for sale. Which you might be considered foolish to do!

I believe the sigmas just refer to the markers, not the whole dial. Redial or not, I have to agree with Chris that value is mostly with the gold in the watch.

Having just done a bunch of research on this agree with kyle...just the sigma is gold markers on dial...but the "OM" like on OPs watch would signify a gold dial too. The OM stands for a french phrase, that escapes me now, meaning solid gold. I had thought the dial on my recent acquisition was solid gold but now don't believe this is the case...
