For sale is a very rare early Universal Watch monopusher chronograph, approximately 38mm, with a superb original black dial.
This is a very early Universal chronograph from the same period as the first Compur watches. Black dials from this era are extremely rare and very few examples are documented.
To the best of my knowledge, this is one of the very few documented early Universal Watch Co. monopusher chronographs with this black-dial configuration.
The watch is in beautiful and remarkably original condition:
Original black dial, extremely well preserved
Original hands
Original crown and monopusher
Original movement
Very well-preserved 38mm case
Everything on the watch is original
For comparison, a very early black-dial Universal Watch Compur was offered by Hodinkee at $14,800, while the famous 38mm two button Compur black-dial example sold by Christie’s in 2016 achieved CHF 58,750.
The watch has also remained in the same Italian family for three generations. Three first names are engraved on the caseback, corresponding to successive generations of the same family from the original owner.
Price: €8,000 (USDC++ or bank wire)
