hi all, i bought one universal geneve from 1969 and with chinese dial, diameter about 33mm only, small but gorgerous. Similar model was been produced among 1960s (maybe even longer), most of dial is roman number or just lines, so far i only see 3 or 4 piece with chinese dial, one was sold by hoddinke, another one still on chrono24.

just doubt anyone know roughly how many pieces been produced? and any background why does universal geneve design this? is it targeting chinese market ?

Hi. Is that your watch in the second photo? Congrats with getting such a complete example. Looks like nothing is missing there.
About rarity; no, it is not very rare. I've literally seen hundreds of these online. Most of them were sold in Japan, so I think your assumption about targeting the Asian market is spot on.

These are supposed to be in 31mm, not 33mm. The Ultra Thin line isn't rare at all, but the kanji dial version is reasonably rare, especially in good condition.

If that is a 16mm SS U buckle on that factory black leather strap, they are quite desirable and expensive these days
