·Up for sale is my all-original 881101/02 inverse panda Universal Geneve Tri-Compax that was purchased directly from the original owner. The watch is in extraordinary shape for its age and represents, in my opinion, one of the best examples to come to market recently. Specific details about its condition are noted below:
Case: The 36.5mm twisted lug case is completely unpolished and very sharp, with only slight surface scratches. Please see pictures for more detail.
Dial: All lume plots are fully intact (rare for many recent examples) and exhibit nice eggshell patina. Sub-dials are all in great shape and the red date wheels are cosmetically perfect as well.
Hands: All hands are original, functional, and in good shape. As clearly demonstrated in the pictures, there’s a small spot of discoloration on the hour hand, and the very bottom of the red chrono hand is missing a touch of the original paint (which likely flaked off during a service).
Movement: Universal Geneve’s unique cal 281 movement is in perfect mechanical condition and was recently cleaned by a local watchmaker. The moonphase complication doesn’t currently function as it should, but a watchmaker that’s better versed in similar complications should be able to correct it. As far as performance, the watch is keeping great time and all other chrono and date functions perform smoothly and accurately.
Crystal: Original crystal is still on the watch, but has a few deeper scratches that I wasn’t able to remove using Polywatch. The crystal’s integrity is fully intact despite the surface scratches.
Bezel: Original bezel with correct dot-over-ninety orientation is in near perfect condition.
Strap: Thewatch will be sold with a very lightly worn Bulang & Sons vintage leather strap.
Additional Background: The original owner, an F1 fan, recreational pilot, and car collector, purchased the watch in 1968 after seeing an advertisement for it in the Playboy Club, a downtown Chicago institution for many years. He wore it for the ensuing decade, but eventually moved on to other watches and only wore the watch sporadically after that, which helps to explain the watch’s preservation.
Due to intense demand that stemmed from my WTT post a couple months ago, I have decided to evaluate any offers greater than $15,000 for the next week in order to give a fair shot to the numerous parties who previously inquired about it (as well as anyone else who missed it). Next Monday (11/16), whatever offer is deemed to be the best will be accepted. Bank transfer only, and personal references (both as a seller and buyer) can be provided prior to consummation.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions via PM here, to [email protected] or through Instagram to @bazamu.
