Is it not about time that we created a "definitive guide to Universal Geneve" ? A lot of the material is readily available and I am pretty much certain that we could come to some sort of agreement with producers of various books and documents on the subject. On The Dash seems to have done a very good job with Heuers: http://www.onthedash.com/Guide/_Chronographs/ It would be great if the Universal Geneve crowd did the same. Is there interest? Do we have any good web developers in the house? Is there scope for hosting it on OF? feedback please ...
I don't have much to contribute but would love to see something similar to the dash too. I certainly wouldn't have any problem offering pics of what I have, only the one, for reference.
I will offer my full support, which unfortunately will mainly moral support. I have the Sala book though
Judging from what I know about UG (which isn't much), it seems like it would be a massive undertaking. But it will no doubt be appreciated by many!
This would be a fantastic idea, but very very difficult- probably a multiyear effort, especially for the more esoteric pieces. And would we limit it to UG chronos, or all UG watches? Would be a lot of fun, and would greatly improve the watch community. We'd also probably learn a tremendous amount I think that it would be better be on it's own website, like on the dash is- maybe contact Jeff Stein for advice?
Devil is in the details. I'd love to hear a more fleshed-out vision of what you have in mind, Diabolik. Database? Consider the recurring issue with dial swapping in UG pieces. Who is going to make final judgement about legitimate dial-case combos? Even if it is by consensus, what are the criteria to be included in the star chamber? What would really help is high quality reproduction in full of those factory reference tables with images that Sala has peppered through his book. Those at least provide a body of watches (and dial-watch combos) that are undeniably legitimate.
How about an impartial data base just showing detailed photos of UG watches dial, case back, movement etc...subitted by OF members
I like it, and would be willing to contribute all that I've learned through the six pieces I've owned.
I think there is a solid data base of references here. Needs to be as many UG models as we can research. I see a companion or supplements to Sala.
Hello, I could help on the development part. I'm a Web developer and UG enthusiast. Sounds like a good match @Diabolik ?
Good morning everybody ! Couldn't sleep last night. Making everything right in my head for the website database. I think I can come up with a plan. Let me put it on paper and come back to you with my vision to see if it match yours.
