Family members have told me he purchased it after his release from the Navy in 1945. Exactly when they do not know. I do know it is solid gold not gold filled. Can anyone give me any insight on this watch. Year it was made? Thank you.

The case design suggests that it was made in the 1940's.

Importantly (at least to collectors), is the fact that the dial has been refinished. That is, the dial plate has been repainted. Doesn't have to be a big deal for you, though, if you like it.

    Enjoy your father's watch. :)

Does the dial plate devalue it? What is a watch like this worth?

Those subdials are fun - THREE different fonts for the numbers!

Nice 40's case in gold, but dial is a disaster and probably printed in the 50's by a cowboy. Does it devalue it? I am afraid it does and rather a lot. As it is it is worth about as much as the gold it has plus a bit for the movement. If you are good with that, just wear it and enjoy it.

Sad because the case and movement are probably lovely.

What are those holes all over, the ones by the minute markers?

Water drainage. Concept developed by redialers intended to reduce the possibility of dial oxidation and fading and so requiring a further redial in future ! :taunt:

What about the movement ? Doh ... !

"watch scuppers!" I love the concept.

those little nipples are hour markers - not rare on UG dials of the era, just weirdly executed on this redial

To the OP: Lovely and not at all common case.

The movement is all original and runs perfect!
The movement is in perfect condition. It was service all original but I guess the redial is destroyed the price of the watch. Can the tile be replaced back to original?

No. But it is occasionally possible to find a replacement if you search diligently, as people do melt down gold cases leaving orphan movements and dials

I guess I'll start searching for one! I guess it'll be worth it.

The watch certainly is not valueless as is!

Compax dial on the bay, item number 262291997289, it might not be the same dial, but the watch would look great with this one !
Dibs on this one if you want to sell it ?

I've seen this dial before but not sure about the originality. Can anyone comment on this dial?

I am inclined to say redone. The subdials look awful.
