Hi all, I´m new to the forum and i have some questions regarding a watch that i have in my possession for many years.

Now that i'm digging in the world of vintage timepieces i have some concern about this watch.
I have this watch that everything is pointing to a compax model 42405 from the mid 40's.
The problem is that instead of compax is writing compur on the dial.
Do you think i have a Redial compax ?

    Welcome to the forum Filipe.

What you have there should be a gold plated Compur cal. 285 not a Compax. I believe the hands minute and hour hand to be replacements and I've never seen this dial before. I believe it to be a redial but I would wait for more experienced people to confirm this. The font looks of to me but I'm not an expert.

Even if does end up beeing a redial, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

Can you tell us a little about the history of the watch. You mention that you've had it for a long time. We always like hearing about it.

    Thanks.

    A litle
Hi thanks for this warm welcome to the forum.

This particular watch was in a friend collection for more than 20 years .
Some years ago i did a proposal and i get the watch for a reasonable price.

I'm a watch enthusiast for many years and i'm mostly collecting omega rolex and Jaeger lecoultre so far.
I'm at the moment spending more and more time digging in this fantastic world of vintage timepieces and i want to know more about what i really have.
I'm a quite new to this UG vintage world and all the information will be useful.

honestly i do know a part of the history of this particular watch but i canot track this to the 40's

    Regards,

Now i know the exact year of the watch "1945" Thank you.

With a Redone Dial this will affect the value of the watch i'm sure.
At the moment i'm not considering selling the watch is a great chronograph from 1945.
But if i consider to sell anyone can advice on how much the redial will affect the value ?

The 42405 should be compax. Unfortunately, what you show, is a incorrectly printed redial. If it had compax on dial instead of compur and without the telemetre red ring it would be a redialed compax. I am not sure if it would make any difference or whether it would make it more desirable.

    Price .... Hmmm ::confused2::

The general consensus is that a redial is probably worth as much as the amount that would be achieved by selling it as parts. The watch is probably worth 30% of what's it would be worth if it was original.

You could look for a dial but they rarely come up or you could just enjoy it as It is ...
