I recently found a Universal Geneve Blue Nina given to me by my grandmother while I was in high school.

For insurance purposes - Does anyone have recent sales information they can share with me?

I'm not looking to sell the watch at this time.

    Thank you in advance.

    Larry

I'd love to know too. This market has left me in the dust, slack-jawed and a little dazed.

Hi Larry, pictures of your actual watch would show the condition, an important part of a valuation. Two watches, one mint with box and papers and the other in average condition can differ in price by multiples.

Yes, Singer manufactured the Compax dials as well.

    Absolutely gorgeous Compax, OP!

I'd point out that the watch in this link is a Tri-Compax rather than a Compax. It's typically best to not value things by one-off auction results either, in my personal opinion. If that was the case, I'd be insuring my Autavia 2446 Rindt for $70,000!

Yes it is, but I was trying to associate it with the Phillips watch in collectors terms, rarer than a Nina but not as much of a cult following. Would you see OPs watch having any trouble auctioning in the high 20's in this condition?
I'm thinking in terms of replacement value for insurance. Could you even find one?

I think a fair insurance value would be anywhere in the mid-$20K range. Also kind of depends what the premium looks like in that range though.

that's-a niiiice! I would say mid-to-upper 20's based on recent sales. I think Andee (rarebirds) had one pretty recently that sold.

Nice grandmother! You have a valuable watch there! Do you have box and papers?

She was a beautiful lady. I believe it belonged to her second or third husband. No box or papers. Wore it for the first time in 15 years this weekend, then put it back in my sock drawer - still runs.

It belongs in a safe deposit box not sock drawer! ( as you can see from the responses. )

I respectfully disagree - it belongs on your wrist after a good service. ::love::

What's the point of locking away everything that's valuable or beautiful? We would no longer get to enjoy all the fine works of art and other collectibles.

Now, regarding service... Who could I approach who is reputable and familiar with UG watches.

Ahh that is the $X to $1200 - $1800 question. What city do you live in? Servicing reccomendations are hard to come by. Seems a lot of collectors keep their watchmakers close to the vest. As a result of some recent debates I think it has been established that UG are not cheap to service and piece of mind is worth the price premium if necessary. ( you have a $20k watch on your wrist).

I think you misunderstood me slightly. While I don't judge anyone for paying high prices if they deem it necessary, I wouldn't recommend it either - especially for a Valjoux caliber watch. Any competent watchmaker should do a fine job @356 Porsche Check out Nesbit's in Seattle or Gehan&Dorety out of Conneticut. I have no experience with the latter, but I've heard stellar reviews from both collectors and their former instructors at Lititz Technicum.
