    Hi all,

I am new at this forum, so I just want to say hello to you all.

I am from Portugal and a watch lover.

My father as this vintage Universal Geneve since the fifties.

Could someone please tell me where I can get the dial redone and a good service to the watch.

I read somewhere that this specific model is very prone to humidity, and that is the reason why the dial are in very poor condition after a few years.

Does anyone knows if there is a "solution" for this? 20141214_183138.jpg 20150823_175447.jpg 20150823_175520.jpg 20150906_105013.jpg

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

    Hi JSflog,

I have one very similar to yours, mine the dial is also very groggy. But I like it the way it is as it has an original dial. You will fine that collectors do value original dial and that is arguably the most important part of any given vintage watch.

Maybe you need to clean up the crystal or dial a bit but not redo it, at least if it were me I won't. And congrats to have received such a nice watch from your Father and wear it in good health ;)

The main reason to the weakness to humidity is due to the more "primitive" case construction. The back is only snap back, and the chronograph pushers have no gaskets. So hence, to answer you, there isn't really much you can do.

Probably some silicon grease where the metal meets may fix this.

HI and welcome. Don't get the dial redone. At best, it will look completely new and out of character with the watch. At worst (and more likely), it will be a bad job and make the whole piece look like garbage.

I love the Portuguese tax "ding" in the 11 o'clock lug!

    Hi all,

    Thanks for your comments.

Now I understand that small "ding" in the watch lug.

    Welcome to this wonderful forum.

As already said, I would not go for a redial as this dial is part of the watch history and you should keep it as it is. :)
