probably worth to add that the Datocompax is a rare model because it was released only approximately 1/1.5 y earlier than the Tri Compax, that, similarly priced but with more complication, took the lion share of the sales. Hence it is today a rare watch. And it is historically important as, together with the Angelus Chronodato (difficult to work out exactly which one came out first as both came out in 1942), is the first chronograph ever with a date complication. Between the Datocompax and the Chronodato for me the Chronodato wins by a margin (and probably also the public back then thought so as the Chronodato sold considerably since day 1 as oppose to the Datocompax), but there is no denial that the Datocompax is still a very nice chronograph and if found in the bigger 37 mm Truman case is a very beautiful and valuable watch!

Wow, I am overwhelmed by all the feedback and valuable information! From what I understand, the watch seems to be non-fake and fairly priced. That is good news.

This is what 32mm looks like on a 7.25 inch wrist. It takes some getting used to.
Dennis, I am just now processing that this is your first watch. It's probably worth a little step back. Are you ready for vintage watch ownership? You get that these are neither as precise nor as robust as a modern quartz? Do you know a watchmaker? Not trying to patronize you, but you should know you are not getting in at the shallow end of the pool with this watch.

The 32mm you posted looks great on your wrist. I have a 6.75 inch wrist, so the 32mm might work even better on me. Also, I only want to wear it with a suit, so from what I have read so far, I guess down-sizing is favourable.
Given its intended use, precision and robustness are not that much of an issue for me. I know it might be a bit crazy for a first watch, but I just fell in love with the looks of it. I know, probably a bad reason for buying, but still 😁

I think the UG Datocompax of the OP is all good, except for the crown that should NOT be signed with the logo (that logo buy the way is WAY later than the 40s, or 50s or even 60s, it is at least late 70s if not 80s). Other than that it is a nice and all correct and rare Datocompax. Also priced kind of cheap IMHO. The reason it did not sell is that it is small, 32mm is not for the faint of heart, and it comes from a person with small wrist and that almost never wears above 36/37mm. But even for me 32mm is a bit small.... That being said if you can pull off this size it would allow you to buy great watches with amazing calibers and amazing history for a fraction of what they would otherwise cost for more "normal" sizes!

Thanks for the input! Good to know some of the background, since I couldn’t really find any information about the Dato-Compax elsewhere...

I guess I’ll have to just give it a try and see how it looks on me. They do have a return policy, though…
So thanks everyone, your replies helped me a lot!

Also, try to bargain a bit, it has been on sale for a relatively long time, perhaps they are willing to drop the price a bit for a quick sell

Don't forget the addiction and the other watches that will come!🙄

and more importantly, forsaking the night out with the lads to pay for servicing your vintage (can be as much as a top of the range quartz) as well as endless nights scouring the internet for that illusive part to complete your newly acquired watch !

👎

Is it really worth it ?

That is a mouthful. If I had a dollar for every watch offering that caught my eye and created a longing only to get to the size and see it is in the mid to low 30's. It's sad all the great looks that are just too small for me.
