Ben Clymer rocks one of these. Not sure if it's the same watch or not.
So is that also a prototype?

Edit: not trying to knitpick but I think it will be good to get to understand whether this model really existed or not or is a put together kind of stuff.....

I think rogue dial makers are so advance these days that it is not beyond impossible to come up with something like these...

But he did do his homework. Westphalen found this thread, and his post is what drew a lot of people to it. He just posted before it became clear that it was the same dial.

sorry folks, missed that, late starter as usual ...

No question about that but they had enough time now to update the article with the new information.

Louis has replied in the comments section at the bottom of the article agreeing it is the same dial. Think that's sufficient.

Yes sir. They are exact if you ask me. Besides all the same slight marks, look at the spot on the hour sub register between the 12 and the first 1/2 hour...there is a slight dip in the silver/grey..identical on both

Yes, you are absolutely right! We can actually see the same marks on both dials (which I had missed at first): the dots in the chronograph subregisters but also the thin line in the seconds counter between 14 and 16, and the trace just before the one o'clock dash. Despite a weird timing (the dial was marked available yesterday, one day after the watch was officially sold), it has to be the very same dial. I have let the dealer know about the questions and he will very likely respond to the comments here

I respect your opinion but i strongly disagree. (not only in this case but in any case) The comments section can't have the same importance and dignity as the principal article. It just can't.
When you read an article on a newspaper do you read the comments? In most of times i don't, in principle i trust in what's written in the article and that all the relevant data about the subject of the article are there, i don't think i have to read the comments to see if the articulist has added more information. What i expect, if new elements were brought by comments, is the articulist mentioning them in the article even if only by the addition of a line saying: "please see comments below" making an alert to readers that new relevant information has been brought to light

I generally scan the comments to see if the author has responded to any questions or critiques.

That is exactly what I did "read the article and never went through the comments"

In light of the evidence that was brought forward by OFs eloquent members (Larry and others comes to mind), I think article should be revisited and updated to reflect findings. That is up to Hodinkee to do ...

As a OF newbie I feel it`s my right to bump an old thread, and this must be the
one because it summons up why I joined this great forum👍

I have always been curious about « spillmann» cases. How can you see it`s
a spillmann case? Markings? Or maybe someone can post a link to read more
about it?

Thanx guys!

People are really sloppy about the term "Spillman" case, and often use it to refer to any case with those faceted lugs, kind of like the inappropriate use of "calatrava". If the case-back looks like this, it's definitely made by Spillman. There are probably other ways to tell as well.

Looks like Hodinkee is not doing his homework and spreading the wrong news ...

Just in case is mysteriously disappears ...

Notable Sale Of The Past Week:
Universal Genève Compax With Prototype Dial Bringing More Than $50,000

7 OF 8

This is the second reference 22410 featured today, and has one of the most striking dials you will ever see. This futuristic dial has also appeared on references 12251 and 12392. There is some debate as to whether the dial can be found on more tool-watch cases, like the 38mm waterproof 22410, but it is now accepted that two versions of this dial exist. Nonetheless, it was promptly snapped up when the dealer MentaWatches offered it for sale at around $50,000.

8 OF 8

The whole Compax thing got really interesting when members of the Omega Forum, a few hours later, spotted another of those dials for sale at "just" $2,500. Needless to say, it was gone in seconds, and one can only wonder when and where it will resurface.

With the first UG in the article it states watch had an Extract from the UG Archives. Is that possible since they’re no longer around?

Archive is issued based on your description of the watch to the issuer....

The UG archive extract is worth about as much as the paper it is written on.

Was it ever confirmed that the dial in the other spillman UG was replaced, and that it doesn't belong in that case? We didn't discuss that one in depth minus the one comment that claimed this... and I'm new to UG (just got my Sala book) so I was curious.

Specifically this watch...:

I missed this entire post.
Can I say "amazing"? With a little note of sarcasm, of course.
