I bought this recently and I'll admit the name on the dial hadn't really registered.

No, not Wilson & Gill but Universal Geneva.

My first reaction was to wonder what kind of franken I'd bought but then decided to have a look at Mikrolisk which provided a little more reassurance.

So, that's alright then. Here are some other pictures of the stopwatch:

No UG signature anywhere other than on the dial.

The firm Wilson & Gill is still going albeit with a name change in 1969:

Has anybody else got something similarly marked - could this have been a brand name reserved by UG for measuring equipment? Any other ideas?

I'd say it's just an english-language dial produced for an english retailer. Can't expect Messrs. Wilson & Gill of Regent Street to sell something made in Genève. Who knows what sort of foreign cesspool that might be! It has an accent, for heaven's sake!
