Hello guys, I am on the hunt for a nice Uni-Compax from the 40's, and I would like your opinion on this ref.224100 serial 81157*.

    Thanks in advance IMG_2015.JPG IMG_2017.JPG IMG_2018.JPG IMG_2016.JPG

I don’t have my reference materials in front of me, but offhand I like it. Beautiful lume. Isn’t it amazing how the radium on the dial ages differently compared to the hands. I wonder if it’s because the dial lume is not as thick, and only exposed on one side.

    Thanks.

Are graphics (fonts and numbers) and colors (the blue scale) consistent with the serial?

Movement and caseback look fine to me.

Thanks. So the blue scale is ok also for early 40's dial?

Actually I think this a later dial as conventional wisdom says that 6 was open during this period.

Now I am a bit confused: so a dial like this isn't correct for an early 40 watch (1940-43)?

You are looking for consistency from UG ?

And for agreement on a dial from everyone in the sub forum?

We are not miracle workers !

Lol, in all seriousness, I think it's fine.

I didn't read carefully the description, my fault.
Of course with a serial like that, dial (that is nice and original as said) is, as correctly said by @Larry S , more recent than the rest of the watch.
Not a big deal of course, there was also a time in which Compur and Uni-Compax dials coexisted.

Overall still a lovely piece, I have to say that.

Can you guys expand on this concern a bit, I'm not completely following?

In Sala there's at least 6 examples of Uni Compax from 40-45 with closed 6 dial, the UG archives photo for ref 224100 shows a closed 6 (although we don't know the year), and here's another 224100 from 1945 (115XXXX) sold in the private sales section from OF...

You are showing two different watches with different dial executions.
Look at the 6 in 60 seconds. One has an open 6, the other a closed one.
Both dials are imho genuine UG. The question is, if the first one is correct to the watch.

Oh, are people talking about the little 6 in the running seconds subdial ?

I have been talking about the big 6 hour marker this whole time

Maybe that's part of the confusion.

Anyhow there's also multiple examples of closed 60s in sala for early 40s, plus the example I posted above from the private sales section.

The case is sharp, the movement clean and looks very well. I'd say everything is consistent (except for the spring bars... uuuh)
As always, it all depends on the price. What's the size? 33mm?

Thanks, to recap: blue scale and open 6 in the 60 seconds track is ok for early 40's, while closed 6 in the 60 seconds is more likely after 1945?

No rules here but I have seen more rectangular pushers with open 6s
