Offered for sale is this example of the seldom-seen Universal Genève ‘Climate-Proof’ Compax. This rare reference was designed as a hardier weather-proof Compax for adventurous souls living and working in tropical climates in the 1950s and beyond. A special second cover sits underneath the case back thereby adding another barrier to moisture coming into the movement. The case is 34.5mm and solid rose gold. The baby pump pushers are very elegant and would likely have increased the case water resistance when new. Both reference and serial numbers are perfectly legible on the case back. The dial is the star of this reference, with scales running along the outside in black, red and blue. The dial on this example perhaps suggests a watch that was used in the field as intended and has lived a life. The patina is fairly even and looks quite different under various light conditions. I have tried my best to demonstrate this in the photographs. This reference 12299 contains the manual-wind in-house UG cal 481. The watch was completely serviced in March 2019 and should be good to run for the next few years without any mechanical attention at all. I will include the service documents for your records. I am pricing this genuine UG grail at £6,750 for watch head only. As many reading this listing will know, the production run of these scarce watches was very short indeed and the number of units built is believed to number in the very low hundreds. Payment via bank transfer or PayPal for known members. I also use Revolut. Delivery to be discussed depending on the buyer’s location. The watch is in London, England. This is the third watch I have ever offered on OF so I have limited seller feedback available (the first one sold on eBay in the end, the second to a member here who was kind enough to vouch for me). However, I have bought watches and parts and accessories from a number of forum members here over the past few years and hopefully my buyer’s feedback and contribution across OF also counts towards your peace of mind.
