Ultra rare 2849 - black dial, silver gilt, silver arrowheads

So recently I asked a question here if Omega ever made a silver gilt black dial 2849 with arrowhead markers, as a counterpart to the more common (but still rare) gold versions

Well, after much patience (and a bidding war) here is your answer. I have never seen another for this reference. It fetched rather a high price, shall we say.

I’m going to have the crystal changed, crown changed to flatfoot original. James Hyman to relume the hands and replace the missing plots are 12/3/6/9. Dial is unmarked - crystal is just a state.

When I say dial is unmarked - clearly it’s heavily patinated. I find this attractive personally.

thank you!

i meant the base metal is silver, and it’s a gilt finish for the script. The text sits at dial level. It isn’t printed,it is laquered around

Very very few of this particular dial variant was made so it’s quite an exciting thing for me to find. I don’t think this has any pictures online. Not sure why the negativity to be honest!

The script isn’t printed? The entire minute track and lettering literally shine in the light. They are entirely undegraded, which paint would not be given the state of the rest of the dial. If this is a reference to spurious claims for a gilt dial , contested by Kaplan made on the C case thread, then I don’t see your point

Well anyway, if you like arrowheads and rare 1950s omegas, this is of interest at least. If you don’t like that’s fine. Odd place this forum sometimes

I think it's a lovely watch. I'm a fan of 50s arrowheads and black dials, as it goes.
But any mention of 'gilt dial' and you know it's going to attract... interest 😜

I see - apologies for biting your head off then.

I don’t see why it should attract interest though! The lettering and minute track shine through as base metal. That’s a dead cert gilt dial isn’t it?

I’m not personally a big fan of heavy patina, but I understand the appeal of the watch. And white gold arrowheads are always cool.

I'd describe it like that too.

Thank you! Strap change was in order. Also a bit of a love it or hate it look - toad leather, from 7strap! Amazing quality I really recommend.

Hah! I'm not getting dragged into that one.
But here's a good article on the process - which you're probably already aware of.

Certainly looks even better in that second set of pics. It will be interesting to see the watch after Hyman's reluming. The final result will surely look good and elevate the vibe.

Thanks man. I’ll send the pics once work is complete. New crystal, crown and Lume will elevate this a lot
