Ultra Deep help

Happy New Year! Who’s already thinking of their next watch?

I’d been debating whether the new Planet Ocean might do the job as a more wearable mini-Ultra Deep, but concluded that it’s a great watch, but probably too far away from the tool watch aesthetic for me.

So back to the original Ultra Deep (yes, I know it is impossibly thick). The Titanium (ref. 215.92.46.21.01.001) is the obvious tool watch choice. I’ve tried it on at a couple of AD’s and think it looks amazing, but I spoke to one owner who told me it gets a bit boring over time. I also saw the Summer Blue edition (ref. 215.30.46.21.03.002) - that’s gorgeous, but more blingy.

Is there an obvious Ultra Deep favourite for OF members? Very happy to see photos too if anyone owns one! Thank you.

Not sure what watch doesn't get a bit boring over time if it is worn regularly. If it's only for occasional wear, pick what speaks to you. For me, it's the first one

Oh you need ultra deep depth ratings? What’s your use case to need the ultra deep which you already think is too thick?

As you might have gathered already, probably not too much love for these out there---they're gimmicky. When they were released I assumed they were meant as a brand flex: watches meant to perpetuate the decreasingly interesting/relevant p!ssing contest with Rolex over depth-ratings, but (as ungainly, tacky, and silly-looking as they are, with a 56mm lug-to-lug?--I might be wrong on that), not watches anyone with a typical-size wrist would ever actually buy to wear.

It sounds like I'm dumping all over them, and I guess I am (and that shouldn't matter to anyone else but me--it's just my opinion, after all), but I'll admit the titanium one is not bad-looking conceptually---if they executed the same Ti watch in normal proportions (like 39 or 42mm with SMP thickness), I'd be drawn to it.

The one with the ocean surface on the dial... I just can't. To my mind, it's a step away from a Corum gold coin dial. But, then, while I like consistently-textured dials (including several Omegas and a lot of Grand Seikos), I'm not a big fan of character/image dials generally. (No Snoopies or Kermits, please.) So I guess I'm not the target demo for such a thing, and that's fine.

All to say, if I had to choose, it'd be the titanium one, no question. As for getting boring, well, it's a time-only dive watch. But I think I'd be less worried about getting bored and more worried about getting annoyed by people constantly saying "holy crap, that watch is like a hubcap!" 😀

Personally, I find them both beautiful, but if I had to choose just one to wear every day, I would choose the titanium one with the canvas strap.

No one needs an Ultra Deep watch, no one. It's all based on image and style. If you feel it's too thick why are you considering it?

I’ve enjoyed large dive watches for over thirty years - ranging from Rolex Sea Dweller to Seiko Marine Master to G-Shock Frogman. I definitely don’t need 6000m of water resistance - no human could! The Titanium is simply a unique look, fun, commemorates an important dive for Omega.
The Summer Blue has a great sense of the deep but maybe a bit more normal looking albeit large!

But yes I think the Titanium is the stand out piece!

There is no possible use case, except fun and an appreciation of engineering!

I have loads of watches that I can’t fit under my shirt cuffs. I’ve just got used to them, and can’t imagine wearing a delicate dress watch.

Yes, a lot of doubters. I have to give it some serious thought. Thank you - that’s what this forum is all about.
When it comes to the Rolex-Omega contest, Omega’s engineering solutions are way more elegant (no Helium escape valve etc.). If Omega could have managed a wearable full ocean depth model rated to 11,000m like the unwearable Rolex Deep Sea Challenge!

True, I think the point was that the case is so dull/sandblasted that it doesn’t have the light play that make some Seikos so interesting - and probably the new Planet Ocean too!

The steel Ultra deeps are 51.90mm lug to lug. That’s not bad at all. I wear mine as often as any other watch in my collection and it’s a lot more scratch resistant than my other steel watches.
Where you notice the size of it is the thickness, not the length. Once you get used to that you are golden. It’s a good looking watch hence why the new planet ocean line looks similar.

I wear this daily.
You get used to the size very quickly. I have a 17cm wrist and as you can see it's still possible to wear on a normal sized wrist.
The Omegasteel is more scratch resistant than my other watches.

What a gorgeous pair! The Ultra Deep is definitely the inspiration behind the new Planet Ocean (despite the the Planet Ocean’s squared-off lugs). I also found the Titanium Ultra Deep much more wearable than I expected. If you’ve ever worn a large G-Shock, the dimensions are pretty similar.

Amazing watch, still torn between the Summer Blue and Titanium. I’m interested that the OMegaSteel is actually proving to be more scratch resistant than regular stainless steel.

For me, I went with the Summer Blue. The O-MEGASTEEL is whiter in color and is supposedly harder as others have said. The titanium model has no bracelet and just the nato style strap. I am not a fan of the lugs. I also picked up the new Planet Ocean. As a fan of larger watches, I love both of them. My wrist size is just a shade under 7" and I think both wear fine.

Amazing to see these two side by side - thanks for posting the photos. The Summer Blue is a work of art, what a dial!

Absolutely love my Ultra Deep, it's as small as I would ever go in case diameter else would look small to me. It is not really that tall either, no more so than my Breitlings. They are all beautiful watches for different tastes.

Happy to see a lot of positive comments from owners after the initial more cautious replies 😍
