UK members, question(s) on warranty on used Omegas

    Hi guys,

I'm doing some research around buying used / new, old stock and am curious as on warranties. Am I right in assuming that used watches sometimes — and in a best case scenario — have some of their original warranty remaining, but that this is often not the case.

I assume the same is true of unused/new stock of older models that have not technically been owned, but are only now being sold.

So, my main question is: Is it possible to get some kind of new warranty on older watches that are still in great condition? I did find a post on another forum stating that a service with Omega costs about $400 and adds a new 2–year warranty to the watch. Is this true?

I'm based in London, so any information from UK members on where a new / renewed warranty could be obtained would be the hugely appreciated.

Aidan, I'm London based but cant really help you - I'd never be able to send a watch to anyone other than my trusted watchmakers, under warranty or not - I want people I know and have worked with messing with my stuff. The fact they are typically a tiny fraction of the cost of omega also helps offset any additional risk I'm taking... does this way of thinking resonate with you at all? It might free you up to go after some of these used/NOS watches....

Thanks Mothra, that does make sense. I guess in that case, what I'd like to know is who would be best to deal with in the UK in the event of a repair or service? After some more reading around this I've seen it recommended in several places that simply sending back to Omega for a service.

FYI I'm currently looking into a NOS Seamaster Professional 2220.80. This is the model I've wanted for quite some time, so my only options are to purchase used or NOS anyway.

I'm assuming that if it's all in perfect working order (as I believe it is), such a model shouldn't require a service (or indeed, any repairs!) for some time? In general, how often should a relatively new Omega be serviced?

    hi,
you will be looking at 5 years (give or take) between services for a modern Omega. And yes, when my watch was serviced by them I was given a two year international warranty, so this would be valid for the new owner if I sold

Thanks Shaun, good to know. What's the best way to get a service done by Omega? If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost and what did the process look like?

Take a look at watchguy.co.uk's site - that gives you an idea of prices and the process.

This is the way it worked in HK, England will likely be different. I went to the Omega boutique, they have some "in house" repair guys at the shop who took a look and suggested a service, I dropped off the watch and a couple of days later I received a quote showing the work they recommend. I approved the quote of about US$400 and collected the watch about three weeks later. The service was done locally and everything was very professional.

I'd be interested to know where in North London you go.

The Omega boutique in Mayfair has an on site watchmaker, or STS in Southend will do an official omega service. Both should have a 2 year warranty. STS charge £260 + vat for servicing a modern watch. Not sure if the boutique is any different.

Ancient and modern in barnet..... Their price for a 321 chrono service/ rebuild was £340. Inc vat I've paid much less for vintage zenith with less complicated movement ... He's an official omega service center, so this probably dictates omega pricing .....www.clock-watches.co.uk.... Is their website address.... Watch maker who fixed my 2998/1 is mark.

    Hi mojothewolf,

Good to hear nice things said about Ancient and Modern in Barnet as that is where i took my Baby PloProf to be pressure tested and after it failed due to missing a rear seal i decided rather than just having it fixed to have it fully serviced by them. They really are nice and very knowledgeable people and on Vintage pieces happy to try and help it maintain as much of its originality as possible. I still have a couple of weeks to go before i get mine back and can't wait. Finding them as opposed to having to go to STS or send my watch away was preferable to me as i also live in NW London so they are fairly local to me.

Fantastic. I was very pleased with the results I have got for my watches, from new watch glass to full rebuilds... Glad hear it's not a fluke. Lol.
I was always very careful to explain what I did and didn't want done though.
