My dealer showed me this 18k UG Tri-compac with snap back case. The watch diameter is about 37mm excluding crown. It looks like a 50s watch with its rectangular pushers. Can anyone tell me more about this particular model and if the watch is all original? Thanks.

The soft edges of the subdials and the date subdial hints at a not so good redial.

All centre hands look like they could be replacements to me.
Nice original-looking buckle peeking out of the top picture, at least.

H M Chrono hands are wrong. This alone would kill the deal for me as hands are impossible these days. The correctness of the dial ... hmmm, yea I get all the points made but I’m not convinced it’s a redial. Flat 3’s ... open 6, long telephony ...all proportional and correct for SN. Nice but later buckle. SN is late 40’s. Moon should have a face. If not this is possibly a service dial and service moon.

Strange dial. It immediately looks off, everywhere. But then the fonts are quite good. It's almost like someone had good dial cliches but did a lousy job reprinting. The inking sucks, positioning not great in places.

Anyhow best avoided. Side note, don't think I have seen stamping like that on the exterior of the caseback? Or does that happen sometimes?

Not a so bad redial, but obviously not an original dial.

    Seriously?
Thick fonts, off center, printing on edges. And the logo looks like it was printed with potatoes. (It's even printed on the subdial...)
We had much better printings that some members here called really bad redial. Now we have one.

This is how these dials should look like:

    to complete it:
left and right subdial hands are correct, top and bottom not.

Writing on the dial looks extremely poor to me...

Pretty dammed accurate for a redial. Not saying it is or isn’t. If not a redial then a service dial perhaps as I said. If a redial then the perpetrator had good tooling and bad technique. Have to admit it looks like crap on a larger screen.

That ref is usually not that big, you measured wrong ? Weird to have the 18k stamp above ref ? My watch same ref.

I’m a novice at UG but not new to collecting vintage watches. The word “Universal” isn’t centered between the sub dials. This looks like a redial to me.

I agree with some of the comments made, in particular the uniformity of the 3s however I'm not comfortable with the moon phase aperture appearing to truncate dates. Text also looks slightly heavy. I'd say redial.

I’ll take any excuse to repost this picture ( :whistling: ) but check out the spacing around the date wheel of my 3 examples, then look at the date wheel of the watch in the OP. C’mon....and I agree that the font of Universal is too fat, off center, etc.
    Redial.

...hand on the date wheel also looks a bit thicker than it should be, and not red. Could be the photo but I don’t think so.

Glorious three ball there, for sure. Where's the strap on the far right rose gold Tri from please? It looks ace.
