Hi guys I am not at all a UG expert but I have started to look for an "affordable" Compax (let's say < 3,000€) so went obviously I looked more into the most recent versions of Compax and found this reference I did not know much about the 284.465 ref Of course gold is not everybody's taste and it is not an Evil Nina nor Nina Rindt but I was wondering how the experts were looking at this reference. Obviously I personally love and that will not stop me from buying it but happy to talk about it ! Thanks !
For 3000€ you can afford a lot of absolutely nice watches from 1940-1960, which are IMHO way more valuable and more interesting in term of investment. However if you are looking for this kind of later edition (Nina looking watch) I would rather recommand a all steel version. I don’t like the watch you posted and I won’t buy this even for 1000€. That’s only my point of view which is for sure very subjective Just my 2 cents! Good luck
Thanks for your advice, I guess you think about some uni-compax like this: https://www.chrono24.fr/universalgenve/compax--id6841866.htm
I like those series x84.xxx: quality movement (lemania 1873), good size (36mm), atractive design for a watch from the 80's/90's (tough times for the watch industry in general) and solid cases. Much better than the ones, from the same era, that used the Valjoux 7750. But i agree with @Florent , 3k is a little high...
Thanks for your advises gentlemen I will probably need to do some more homework before pulling any trigger I spent too much time on Omega recently sometimes you need some fresh air
The only later UG that is likeable is the aero compax. I have been looking for a white dial for some time. They do not seem to pop up very often and when they do they are way overpriced. A born classic ?
I have a personal line drawn between the later chronos with Lemania calibres as opposed to the 7750-based models - I'm not particularly interested in the latter but they'd need to be in the sub-€500 bracket for me to look at them (and that would be a stretch). I think for €3k it would need to be all gold and somewhere just under €1k for the one in the OP. I still regret not buying one that was being continually re-listed at £500 about 4 years ago but then haven't we all. This one spent a lot of time unsold at £600 - until I saw sense (I have also recently acquired a spare bezel which I want to get brushed). On a related note I've recently taken possession of a quartz Senna chronograph to use as a mugger's watch in some of my less-than-salubrious travel destinations.Within 20 minutes of it arriving most of the bracelet spring bars disintegrated so it will need a bit of attention .
