i know the seller. It went once on ebay, winning bidder wouldn't pay. Sold again, hopefully buyer follows through. I think it's a decent price given the rarity on the case. I would def relume the hands if it were mine....

Decent jumbo with some condition issues (polished case, badly re-lumed hands, flawed dial) that sold at a solid price in my opinion. Not a bargain. BTW, not every case with faceted lugs is made by Spillman. It could be a Spillman case, but I can't read the number inside the hammerhead.

You can see the 136? I’m not doubting. I just can’t read it.

Or most likely you just know from experience with the reference.

It would be nice if the OP would post photos, so the thread could serve as a decent reference.

I know the reference. I also know the OP has posted super high res photos of his exact same reference (case in completely unpolished unreal condition, which shows the hammerhead 136) in another thread

Watch was not bought by me....
    Unfortunately
Even with a polished or worn case I believe it is a very decent catch.
    Congrats to the new owner

I agree the price was quite good, but also shows how differently we all value things. When it was first listed I offered the seller 5k usd which was my best guess as to market value. They preferred to let auction run and I think it sold around 4K the first time. Buyer never paid. On realist it went $3900 which is way below my offer after fees. I had since bought another watch after making the offer and didn't have funds anyways, to revisit the deal, but now I'm glad I didn't pay 5k as the market doesn't seem to agree with me.
Just shows how tricky valuations can be, and also the gamble between letting auctions run vs fixed offers.
    It's a crazy world out there !
Seller seems to be a nice guy, UG collector from Eastern Europe, I kinda wish he had gotten a better price.
Congrats to new owner, get those hands relume properly !

Some of the pictures added for posterity reasons (I did not include the far or out of focus shots).

That being said, that's a pretty looking watch!

Almost every eBay auction is surprising me at the moment. Maybe it's just the summer doldrums, or maybe the market trend is changing. We will know in a few months.

if you are talking about the other SS spillman up on ebay recently, that one was a mess several times over, and not reflecting the market, but rather the insanity of various ebay issues, such as leaving the bidding open to intl bidding, and then getting bad bids, to shifting to USA only auction, and people making "erroneous" bids, etc, etc

No, no, sorry. I was talking more generally, and mostly about some vintage Rolex pieces I was watching. There were several I expected to fetch close to $20k, and ended around $15k. And I was referring to the vintage market in general, although I definitely don't want to start a discussion on that topic.

I didn't notice the SS Spillman you refer to.

Cool watch, but is that watch really worth that much ? My estimate was in the 5k range.
