I took a gamble and purchased the watch below last night. I plan on proposing to my GF this summer and I want to give her a watch (after the ring) as a gift. She loves the model the below. I usually see these for about 2k-2.5k but haven't been watching them for very long. I was able to snag this one for $1450 USD, after taxes. I plan on having a full service and replacing the non UG band with a newer one. My question is if the forum thinks this was a good buy and everything looks original. The pictures aren’t very clear but everything looks correct to me....Reference 698.400 Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thank you!
Its a later model, nice, well made, but not in the collector sweet spot, so no incentive to franken or fake. Slowly but surely these later models will become more desirable.
Hope the proposal goes well, and congrats on getting your lady a UG watch. Its not from a time period that I admire, but the important thing is to get her the watch she likes, not the one you want to give her. On a completely unrelated note, this one popped up recently, not too much more, and for late UG, I thought it was kinda cool, nice tritium...... https://www.chrono24.com/universalg...aph-36mm-lemania-1873-caliber--id18618890.htm
Thanks to all of you for the replies. It’s definitely not my style either, but it’s what she likes. Plus anything mechanical is an improvement from her iwatch, at least to me! Anybody know the year range for these models? Early 90s?
Finally received it today. It looks good for the price, but needs a service. Is there a way to know what year/range this is from? I haven’t been able to find any info on these outside of what @Larry S has shared. Well what I’ve found doesn’t list numbers for these laters models...
