Hello all,

I know the resolution of these photos are not great, but I also know there are very clever people on here when it comes to identifying watches.

Is anyone able to even guess what two watches Tyrone Power was wearing in these photos?

Thank you!

Given the case in the first photo, I'd guess Eterna, and possibly with a cal. 852 movement. Here's a sub-second example for comparison:

Yes, that could be it!

I'm going to agree with Tony, the lugs look very much like an Eterna.

Yes, I agree. They are unique enough. This is my first time hearing about Eterna

I think this is the watch! Now I just need to find one

If you get one, you won't be disappointed. My gold one, above was my third Eterna. I bought it from Tony several years ago and it is easily one of my favorite dress watches, in fact, if I had to pick between it and my Connie, I'd probably pick it. Eterna is one of the absolute best Swiss watches for the money that you'll run across. They have a rich history and were hugely influential at one time. Their old subsidiary, ETA, is owned by Swatch today and builds the movements for many of the products made by Swatch.

Thank you for the advice. I have just bought this one from a seller in Italy for about €250

The watch arrived and I love it! Perhaps someone can answer a question I have. Why is one hand darker than the other? I cannot tell despite having it in front of me. Is one dirtier than the other?

Glad you found what you were looking for. Regards your question on one hand looking darker than the other - from the photo it looks like part of the lume on the minute hand is missing and so the ‘lighter’ patch is actually the dial you are seeing through the hand? Else someone has replaced the lume in the past and the colour hasn’t been matched. If you’ve the watch in front of you, it should be easier to tell if it’s missing lume if you manually adjust the time and you’ll see the hour hand passing under the missing lume.

Ah yes, that must be it. That is a shame.

Yeah, thats exactly what that is. The minute hand is missing its lume. HOPEFULLY it was at least a service ago, as otherwise that lume is floating around the movement somewhere.

There are definitely watchmakers who can re-lume hands, AND ones that could do so with some pretty solid color matching skills. You should get it serviced anyway (see above!) so the watchmaker could re-lume for you as well.

Good to know this is possible, thank you

Here is another photo of Tyrone Power wearing a watch. I don’t suppose it can be identified from the lugs or band?
