Hey, is this another Speedmaster thread? It is! Imagine that. So, just now, bidding ended on two 145.022-68 Transitionals. http://m.ebay.ca/itm/311728523345Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network $6,800 USD http://m.ebay.ca/itm/112178330876Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network $4,250 USD There are some obvious differences, and I know which one i'd take. Did these land at the right prices? What do you think?
based on the pictures in the thread, the first "good one" could have been a slight deal given condition plus a 1039.
I like number one as well but you have to be cautious buying anything from Exit 13 on the Jersey turnpike.
You know if I ever sell my transitional it will be a safe buy because it proudly hails form Exit 10 - Edison/Metuchen. It will come on a fine JB Champion bracelet and will include a Taylor Pork roll.
That first one is pretty amazing and well-bought IMO. Given the price spike last year almost seems low for what I think it might be worth, given that the 1039 bracelet appears to be close to full length.
First one has a lot going for it, nice dial, very nice DON bezel and the period correct SN and caseback + 1039 bracelet. This alone would make this a $6k+ watch. To put it in perspective, there was a '68 that was recently posted here for $5.8k with relumed dial and missing tritium on the hands and did not come with a 1039 bracelet, it was a project watch. This one at $6.8k seems like a bargain given what was listed and sold within day here on OF. Just my 2 cents.
After looking closely at all the pictures in both listings I think number one is more visually appealing watch but number two looks like a more honest example minus the bezel issue. I see number one notes the hands are possibly later additions and something looks off between how spectacular the dial is and how degraded the hands are.
I like mine from about a year ago off eBay for less than half these prices But if I were to choose I'd agree with @TLIGuy 's sentiments above.
