Ah, our "English" friend! Sorry for being late on yet another tuesday...
Kettil - I hope it is OK with you that I dwell a little on the subject of your watch - "The English"?
For those of you who might think this is just your ordinary old turtle - besides the rare version dial and a different set of hands - you have another thing coming. This watch is rare in at least one more way - which is not obvious straight away.
Have a look at this comparison of the case to a "normal" turtle ("English" on the left):
As my entry for this tuesday I will link to this auction (no connection to seller). I hope I do not blow anyones aim for this one with this post...
But I feel it is of interest for the turtle enthusiast.
This dial is a bit strange. The painted indexes are not inside the mirrorlike finish area but outside. They look smudged (with reservation for the plexi being scratched). The text follows the "French" word order but with Chronometer instead of Chronometre and as the "English" it does not say "Captain". Sort of a mix of the English and the French versions we have earlier examples of - with this one having "normal" case and hands. The mirror finish area looks thinner in width. The fonts looks the same as the "English".
These dials are made out of gold - guess making a redial regarding the gloss band rather difficult. Missing "Swiss made" at the bottom.
I usually do not shout "redial" on the smallest of inconsistencies and I do not in this case either - but in this case I would at least want to make anyone interested aware of the possibility.
My firm belief is that the earlier two versions are genuine for sure. To many things differ between the versions - case, hands, wording, etc - but they are both of the same comparable high quality - for it being anything than just two original versions.
This third one - I am slightly worried...
Please feel free to put forward your thoughts.
