Until you realise that they all have the same fault ;)

My understanding is that these 214's often just need fettling to accept a 1.5V battery. A job that's not too difficult if you know what you're doing - the hard part is getting your piece to one of the handful of people who do know what they're doing.

I have been lucky. Bought 2 hummers on the Bay and both stated they weren't running. Put new batteries in both and one is running great. The 2nd runs great for weeks then stops. Going to get that one serviced. The other one has marking inside so I can tell it has been served at some time in it's past.

Eh who said anything about the 214? This discussion is about the Omega 1250/60 (ESA 9162) which is a very different design to the original Bulova 214, benefits from about 10 years development and can accept a modern 1.5v battery just fine.

Mea culpa - I am reading everything watch related tonight, all the watches! I had been reading about an astronaut prior to seeing this thread come back up in my emails.

Interesting read. I bought my f300 after the previous owner had it serviced so it hummed since the moment I got it. Glad you were able to fix yours.

I love my hummers, and have one in every variation now. I got my first Connie years ago and fortunately the date wheel has been the only issue, but now that is available in metal. The 1250's are very quiet compared to the Bulova issues, and definitely the best time keepers. Beautiful watch. While it is good to find a working one, there seem to be a few people around who have parts available and know these watches well.

Do you have a source for the metal date disc?

I assume you are selling that? If so be aware pumping your own eBay auctions is not allowed here for a noob. I would say that is fully valued at the price it’s at now if it is a 198.001.

I was hoping that there was a movement shot somewhere in this thread, and look at that, there it is in the auction listing. Thx for posting that! I thought that all chronometers had adjusted movements. I have so much to learn ::book::

hummers’ don’t need adjustment for orientation. No balance wheel of course.
