Hi all, I mentioned on another thread that the reason I don't (yet) own a Rolex, is that I haven't been able to find on that I like, and can afford (vintage millgaus please). But having done some googling, I'm rather taken with the 1950-1970 oysters. Particularly for of non date, with Arabic numerals... But damned if I can work out/understand the model number system or the Rolex jargon. Can anyone offer some advise to a clueless Rolex virgin? My budget is £1500, so I'm not sure how far that will get me.
Ok... So have maybe narrowed things down to a Tudor Oyster-Prince 7909 or 7809. Any advice on what I should be looking at/for most appreciated.
What about a Rolex oyster precision? With that budget you can afford an almost perfect condition of that model
That Tudor is beautiful! Outside of your requirements and If Ulackfocus wanders into this thread I may be barned for saying posting this but since you like Omega Quartz - Take a look at the Oyster Quartz 17000. I know you have other quartz and IMHO the 17xxx is the most beautifully finished quartz movement ever.
I can help much with what to look for. All I can say from memory when I bought this one in 2014, is that there's not a big demand for these and there seems to be quite a few on the market. From what I've seen, they are definitely in your price range. Now at the moment there seems to be a upsurge of interest on these models but nothing serious at the moment. I'm actually negotiating to include it in a trade at the moment. I like it but it doesn't get much wrist time since the bracelet is too big. I know I could just change the bracelet or make another hole in it but... From reading on other forums, one member said that there are many variations and it seems to be dependent on where they were sold. I guess it even goes down to the writing of shock resisting in a single word, two words, with a hyphen in between or not. When I inquired on the Rolex Forum (RF) about this one prior to buying it, and 1/3 of comments said it was a redial. To me that didn't make any sense because of the shadow/burn mark at 8 o'clock. Obviously a sign that the watch had not been used for some time, causing the hour hand to maintain it's position. I tried to continue gathering info and finally gave up when I noticed that no one could or would help on RF. The interest of most people seem to rest and concentrate on the sub lines mostly. Sorry I can't be much help.
I like the oyster Quartz a lot... They're creeping onto the list... Just the early Tudors are pretty cool... Why can't there be bottomless watch funds?
I think that Tudors are currently surfing on a price increase due to recent profilation. I don't think that the increase will be permanent and I could well imagine that some of the models that have surfaced could be of doubtful quality
A few here http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=7242556&rid=0 http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=7244292&rid=0 http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=7244295&rid=0 http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=7244291&rid=0 None as nice as mine
Funding and expenses are always an issue, but as Dennis buys batteries in bulk, he may be able to help you out there. Just give him a shout, @ulackfocus
