I have a 7017/0 that was acquired from an 84 year old watch maker back in 2004. It was in a crate along with about 50 watches used for parts. It cost $5.00. At the time I knew nothing about Tudor other than it was part of Rolex. That was when the search for parts to repair the watch began. The watch had no crystal, did not run and had no crown. The dial was in bad shape and so was the movement.
Searching for parts was next to impossible. It was a tedious task and the reason was: MISINFORMATION.
Searching for information led to well known auction houses that would identify the watch movement being supplied by Valjue or an ETA. Sellers on Ebay and the forums often would not identify the watch movement or listed it incorrectly as an ETA 2772. Sellers that would add a photo of the movement made it possible to identify the movement as the same movement that was in my watch. Often the movement was referred to as an ETA 1895.
After considerable time I did learn that the movement was an A.Schield 1895. I was also able to find the pdf file on the family of movements. http://guides.mccawcompany.com/a-schild-as/as-1885-1886-1895-1896.html Recently I obtained the Rolex catalogue of parts printed 7/7/2000 for the Tudor Jumbo 37.5mm watch which included the 7017-0, 7019-3, 7019-4 and the so called "Turn-O-Graph" 7020-0. They all had the A. Schield Cal. 1895 17 or 21 jewel movement.
I am still in the long process of restoring this watch serial number 684*** which dates it to 1969. I have located one donor movement in the same poor shape as mine and two new old stock base caliber AS 1882. I am still on the hunt for a nice replacement dial at a decent price. The dial is 30.60mm with dial feet at 22.5 and 52.5 minuets. The first crystal was cut down to fit with no magnification. Later I was able to replace it with an original. The 7017 has become one of my favorites.
This may not be all of the facts, but I hope this information helps others. If you have information different from mine or additional information please let me know and post it on this forum.
    Thank You

Thanks for sharing your story. Interesting information about the movement. I recently got my hands on a grey one (682***) - definitely an instant favorite.

Interesting read! This is a watch I have found more and more interest for, I think it has a lot more appeal than the Rolex counterparts.

My Jumbo 7020 seems to be fully functional roughly a year after purchase! The AS 1895 movement has an offset canon pinion that seems to be a bit of an achilles heel. The service/restoration difficulty seems to be related to sourcing the correct parts for this approximately 50+ yr old movement. Watchmaker Kelly Hunter is highly recommended after getting mine back in shape and humming along. jumbo.jpg
