    Hi Guys,

I might be looking at picking up this Tudor 7928, with snowflake service hands. It is approx 65' model, with the 'Gilt' outer minute track.

It's an interesting look, but how much would an original set of hands set me back?

And does the insert (although worn) look period correct?

Oh, and what are your thoughts on condition? - I'm awaiting some further photos.

    Thanks!

I haven't firmed up pricing, but the 7928 (although in what looks to be worse condition) will be a lot less to purchase. Im still waiting on some more photos though to asses condition.

Make certain you get clear movement images

There was a plethora of outright counterfeits,… swooping in from Vietnam, about a decade ago…cheerfully brazen copies @ $300 each

These have started to resurface on the vintage market…I have seen 3 x this year

    Hi!
I believe that dial is more 66-67 as 65 should have gilt chapter ring. Gilt minute markers were a "transitional" dial for late 7928 and early 7016.
I have had one 7928 from 66 and now I own one 7016 from 67/68 (both with the same kind of dial)

I Would be interested in your snowflake hands if you change.

Assuming that the dial is correct, it looks nice but quite torn case.

The one you post later in the thread I believe is either later or has a service dial as a 67 should have rose dial.

    @ANALOGUE

Yea I think it could be slightly later still waiting on serial pics etc.... And if I need to move the hands I'll let you know :) .

@ICONO - if I see it in person, what should I be looking out for?

Some more photos for your viewing.

The case is very worn :( , and probably I will only see the movement in person, so not too sure what too look for there.

But I think the price will be good (ie low) considering the condition, with hopefully the marks all on the plexi!

Let me know what you think.

    Hi!
It is Indeed quite beaten, however it is worse with overly polished ones. I am not a case expert but it looks kind of fat so might be possible to give a light polish?

The bezel is also very worn, strange that insert looks that good... Actually... I now see that it has a newer insert. Should have a fat font long five (see my first watch).

It is a bit hard to tell the second number in the Serial? O or 9?

I guess it sais 9,wich would date it at 1967 as I thought based on the dial. Hence, then the dial can be original, but could of course have been changed as one have changed hands and insert. Anoways, the dial looks good and it should be correct for the reference and age (though a bit hard to see condition under all scratches).

So in summary, a quite beaten up Tudor Sub from ~67 with correct dial, wrong hands (think this should also have lollipop seconds hand (see my second watch above) ), and newer insert. Of course bracelet is not correct...

It has to be quite cheap to consider it imho, but if it is cheap I could perhaps take a chance...

    Hi again!
I answer here to share the litte knowledge I actually have... Hope that is ok!

505 should place the watch around 65.

65 should have gilt chapter ring on the dial which this does not. Hence, a beaten case from 65, dial from 66-68, insert newer than 68 and wrong hands.

Feels a bit like a franken but that is perhaps too hard....

I would not buy, and it will be really hard to sell

    Hi @ANALOGUE

Thanks foe you reply mate! Much appreciated once again.

It's a shame that it appears to be either parted together, or had a few replacements during its time. I was hoping to get a nice and somewhat original at a good price! :p

Do you think it has value as parts?

I am glad I can help!

Yes its a shame, but I think you basically won't find a nice example at a "good" price without a lot of luck and knowledge. Basically, the number of sellers that does not know what they have decreases every day and too many buyers are searching for watches all over...

Of course the parts have a value, but my exoerience is that the market for parts is a bit tricky. Dealers are charging a lot but it is hard to sell yourself...

To source a gilt gial, correct hands and a fat font long five will cost you Big Time but then the case is still quite bad...

If you want a True beater I guess you can buy this but I doubt it will be a "good deal"

I think that is becoming more and more the case. I'll see if the seller is understading/negotiable and might purchase it as a beater or future project, as it appears the dial could be nice.
