Hello, I am looking for some vintage Speedmaster hands. What should I be looking out for when buying? For example- how do I know if the center hole has been stretched out so it’s no longer usable. Thank you to all who have helped me along the way into this new hobby. Cheer- Steve
Which model hands, you will need to be more specific as there is multiple threads on mutiple styles of speedmasters hands. Might want to remove the bit that makes it look like a WTB add
Professional Speedmaster Hands. 68-90....before the luminous material changed. My apologies for the WTB portion. Still figuring this site out. Do most of these come repainted, bent, or relumed ?
I recently sold some on eBay for about £500. They were the earlier tail second hand set, but that seems to be about the going rate regardless. I think the uncertainty about condition keeps the price down.
Can you specifically indicate what reference watch? Also, you will need to learn how to distinguish original from service hands. And edit your original post to remove the WTB language, or this thread could possibly be removed by a moderator.
I don't think there is any difference from about 68-97 so a reference is not necessary. Recognising service from original Tritium is a bit hit or miss. You will need to trust the seller, or the returns policy!
Have managed to find replacement tritium sets for both my 76 Moonwatch and a 74 Telestop Mkii. Both sets are secondhand and not NOS. The hands for the 76 are in better condition and came from my local watchmaker. The Mkii hands were $AU200 off eBay and still waiting to hear if they will be ok. There is a risk involved in buying used hands but I felt it worth taking for the matching vintage look- Of course you could have a luminova set painted to match the tritium dial, there are a lot of good relumers out there.
Yes! I know not a Speedmaster, but when I bought this is had Super Luminova hands. I was able to source mint tritum hands, but it would not be a match so I had @photo500 relume (and age) the Super Luminova hands. A much better fit.
Are these sort of hands you are looking for? With a square end chrono hand? They are tritium service hands from the early 1970's, with a slightly shorter minute hand.
They could be out out there but I have not seen NOS tritium hands for sale. Your best bet is probably still used tritrium hands from eBay.
