Have been offered a swap of a Trilogy SM300 for my Trilogy Speedmaster plus a few quid (over double the original retail price difference). Both are full sets in good condition with virtually unworn straps and bracelets. Would you do it and if so, why?

I would because I personally like Seamaster better. But again ultimately it’s up to you.

Absolutely and at present I am leaning towards doing it if only for a change as much as anything but would like to hear the pros and cons from owners. Does anyone have both for instance?

I have both, but it’s like asking to pick your favourite child. It’s all about what you think and what you prefer.

Well I am nearer than many contributors on here since we are an eclectic international bunch but from the West Mids Kent is still quite a trek. A very kind offer though!

Tough one but I think I would, the Seamaster was the pic of the bunch for me. Don't seem to notice many around on the secondary market when compared to the Speedmaster, whether that is a sign that they're generally better received who knows.

    Good luck in your decision.

to me it boils down to this question : would you pick a 2913 over a 2915?

For me : definitely not. More reasons (apart from the aesthetics) why:

    - owning a speedy 60th is the next best thing to owning a ck2915(-1/2).
    - production of both are round 4000 pieces (MWO estimates this for all 2915's), making them both roughly equally as rare (2915 has 60 years on the 60th, so there will be less pieces in great condition, but still, produced amounts are roughly the same).
    - speedmaster! (squirrel-bait)

If you can, get both. Or keep the Speedy.

Edit : the same argument can be applied the the SM...so IMHO the first question answer is the most pertinent.

A good well thought out answer, exactly what I would expect. To address these valid points I would counter:

    1) I personally much prefer the look of the leaf hands of the 2998 era Speedmaster to the 2915 Broad hands so an accurate 2998 replica would be my choice ( but no such animal exists of course, though the FOIS is fairly close)

    2) I already have an Ed White with which to scratch the straight lug Speedy itch, though the value makes me a bit wary of wearing it.

That said, they are both lovely to look at. If I do go ahead, I will get a chance to compare them side by side before I have to decide. In an ideal world I would get both but am not sure I can justify that at present.

Why not put alpha hands from the fois on the 60th speedy? Not sure if there are options for a black bezel.. I think the 70th case is different from fois, but hands would fit.

I would have bought the seamaster out of those two.

Don't go much on the Speedmasters bezel

I’m a chrono fan, so I would stick with the Speedy. Boils down to personal preference

This is certainly an option but it feels a bit silly to take a >£5K watch and then mod it. Also I would have to match the hand lume if I used FOIS hands and to be honest I would rather not do anything that prevents me selling easily at a future date if I so desired. I am not especially a modder or tinkerer. It would look a nice piece though, that I'll grant you.

Interesting. Is that a general comment, reflecting perhaps the questionable usefulness of innovations like the coaxial escapement or something specific to the 8806 that doesn't appeal? I could happily live without co-ax but the silicon free sprung bits sound interesting and at least the 8806 is a more sensible size than the earlier in house stuff, using as it does only 1 barrel.
