Today, I was able to try on the new Omega Speedmaster Professional in Canopus Gold. Per the director, I am apparently one of the first consumers to see this in person. Lucky me.

Ever since I saw a picture of this pre-release (and haggling Gregory Kissling about future Canopus Gold models during several sessions) and then reading RJ's guide on Fratello post-release, I fell head over heels for this watch.

While I already have a 3861 Moonwatch in hesalite, this might just be my exit watch. The watch features Canopus Gold and its brilliance is something I can't express in through the photos. It's definitely heavier than my stainless steel watch but the heft is not unreasonable.

Since it costs 45.3k USD, I might as well save up.

Big thanks to the friends at Omega for this wonderful opportunity.

I feel like it's a good looking piece but for that cost I prefer something flashier.

For that much money it should be made out of moon rock.

This is very low-key flashy. The dial and the bracelet give an interesting vibe off with the light.

Moon rocks are government property. Meteorites are not 😀

This piece is truly for those who love stealth wealth.

Spot on. That's exactly it.

It's a beautiful watch, no doubt and like mentioned: stealth wealth. Something I do appreciate.
It is out of my price range I am willing to spend on a watch.
But on the other hand, it's something one does not see everyday.

While $45K is certainly a whole lot of money, when you consider that people are spending nearly $30K on regular old steel Daytona’s it seems almost reasonable 😀

Beautiful watch. Well out of my price range. Hope I get to see on in the metal someday.

Yeah, I think the cost of the Sedna gold variation is about as high as I'd go cost wise. The price falls right in line with what I paid for my golden Submariner which is as far as I'll go.

Most expensive dial and hand swap ever...

It’s cool and all, but come on now.

Absolutely! It's going to be rather uncommon even after several years.

You will... whenever corporate decides to put out retail models. I'd rather much get this than the Daytona. Low key, not an instant target on the streets and NO STRESS.

Sedna Gold version is gorgeous as well. If the opportunity arises, I suggest you see it for yourself. Golden subs are fantastic too but they're too flashy for my preferences.

Well, you neglected the case, screws, pushers, crown and the bracelet. Can say the same for other brands too.

You know you would be surprised, the golden Submariner actually dresses down and isn't as loud as one would think. This is just my experience of course, but I wear mine with jeans and t shirts and think it blends right in.

Only someone who thinks that a gold submariner dresses down, isn’t loud, and blends right in with jeans and a T-shirt would, well, own a gold submariner…

Pics!

The new one definitley looks whiter than my "pre-Canopus" white gold Apollo 11. Can't wait to check it out in person!

It's beautiful for sure, but the value isn't for me (doesn't help that the only gold watch I've owned I took an absolute hammering when I moved it on). Heavier and softer doesn't make much sense to me on a tool watch, and if I'm dropping 40k on a watch there are so many endgame pieces with arresting design, movement and/or build that I'd consider first. JMO. I can well imagine that it's dazzling in person, and if you end up buying it then it will be one to treasure, I'm sure..
