Hey Guys, wanted to get your opinion on a watch that caught my attention. Have been interested in tri compaxs lately and spotted this one at the link below. I’m definitely not the expert and bought the sala book recently to learn more about these. It says NOS but the first thing I noticed is the 6 o clock sub dial is clearly misprinted outside the sunken sub register. What are your thoughts?

Agreed. That ‘patina’ reminds me of being seven years old and dipping brand new sheets of crumpled paper in cold tea to make fake treasure maps. Avoid, obviously.

Yeesh, thanks for the input guys. I guess mislabeling it Uni Compax was also a sign of carelessness when the dial clearly says Tri compax. I guess it could work to your advantage if the piece was mislabeled and priced lower than what the piece is actually worth, but definitely not the case here! Hopefully nobody spends an arm and a leg on it!

Christopher, your gut instinct based on the hours subdial was spot on. Clearly it's a redial, and that's some funky patina it has as well. The patina looks forced and unauthentic, and perhaps was done with an amber tinted clear lacquer overspray as my guess. The case has scars, and is nowhere near the NOS condition the seller states.

Here's a photo for posterity (links will go bad in time. OF prefers that we use photos to maintain the integrity of the thread in the future.

With Sala on your desk, and continued vigilance going forward, I'm sure you'll find a good example. The folks here on this forum will step in with advice as well.

    Welcome to OF.

I am not in any way well versed with tricompaxs but is one of the telling signs of a redial the different font used for the "6" in the 9 o'clock subdial compared to the rest of the watch? I noticed that on @Tempus example, the fonts are consistent.

Asking a tad north of 15k.

Also, does anyone know if these came on bracelets? I think I’ve only seen one before, rest all came on straps.

So for a laugh I email him and ask about the sub dial markers spilling over. His reply

    Hi Mike,
No, the dial is original and has not been redone.
Give me a call and we can talk further if you’d like.
    Best,
    Juan
