Are the hour and minute hands on a cal 481 (ref 12295) interchangeable with other movements? Looking to replace my baton slyle hands with the calatrava dagger style hands.

So hands from a uni-compax would fit the posts for a tri-compax with 481 movement? Do you know if that works across all movements of that era or just certain ones like the cal 281?

That is an expensive assumption. No that isn’t true. Has to be caliber to caliber. I have a 300 euro expensive lesson in my safe.

exactly - that is why I am trying to get clarity. I found a set of hands on a 285 movement that are pretty close to what I am looking for but they are in Europe ( I am USA). I think I recall seing a post from you in the past about a recommended watchmaker for TRi-Compax service. Would you being willing to share who that is?

MJ Watch Service in Glenview Il has done a good job with my fleet. Let’s see your watch. Hands are not returnable generally and getting very hard to source.

There is nothing wrong with the hands. The reference # only refers to the case. Just because you may have seen a pic of this ref in Sala with Dauphine hands does not mean that someone changed them. My guess is that this watch has the leaf hands it was born with. You will do more harm than good. The odds of you finding a crown might be slightly better but there is danger there. If there is a problem you will destroy the stem. (I’ve been there. Bought a flat foot for my 2998-6 speedmaster that turned out to be cross threaded. Result, destroyed the earlier and attractive service crown and stem. It now has brand new Omega parts. I did get my money back but not the cost and fee from my watchmaker.) A better solution might be for a watchmaker to find you a flatter more appropriate one. Don’t forget, crowns and stems were wear parts so any thing you buy used is suspect.. Yes this reference is yellow gold. It’s hard even for a good restoration watchmaker to find UG parts these days.

Thanks. I know these hands are original, I just really prefer the Dauphine hands. I had a rose gold jumbo cased one with dauphine hands in the past and really prefer that look. I really wanted to get this in rose gold with dauphine hands but could not find one with an original dial. I will probably hold on to this one until I can find what I am really lookin for.

The relationship between hands and calibers is complicated. It's best to determine the exact hole size using resources like ranfft DB to get a feeling for where there is crossover. Even if there is crossover in the post size, the length may still be wrong. I wouldn't attempt without having photos of the potential hands on a bergeon hand gauge so you know exactly what you are dealing with. Even then there are risks, I have had the exact hands sourced and then crack on install, even with extremely experienced UG watchmaker. The NOS hands available are very old. Each mistake can be $300 plus. Not saying it can't be done, just saying its a minefield.
In this case, I agree with Larry, I would not mess with this. It's a very nice Tri and looks completely correct as-is. If you want something different, as you say, maybe hold out for that, and then let this one go when you find exactly what you are looking for.
Good luck with the hunt. Here's a rose 12296 I used to have.....

You and Larry have both offered sage advice. If only I could find the model I am looking for with a good dial. Thanks all
