Inspired by the 2998s that have popped up thought I would start this thread. I have 3 but I think they pass my standard for condition. 2998-4: 2998-1 with the tropical/chocloate dial: And of course this 2998-1 - I got this 10 years ago and as many of you have seen has everything with it. The bracelet was resized but doesn't look like it was worn and certainly not serviced. I have those extra links and also the hangtag, inner and outer boxes, manual, warranty paperwork which was left blank and the original purchase receipt. Didn't know nearly as much about speedmasters at that time and this was the 2nd I got of what is now 17 cal. 321 speedies. It is probably the nicest 2998 around and maybe even the nicest straight lug vintage speedmaster there is. And a bracelet shot:
Thanks for posting, now I know what Wally Schirra saw whenever he was looking at his (FOIS) watch in 62.
Well muck fe Edit : would love to know what that bad-boy cost you 10 years ago, but even more how you found it! Fantastic ensemble...
There is no sense in even attempting to compete with these specimens. Even if I had unlimited funds, simply finding three 2998s this good would be near impossible. As I've said many times here, the NOS-like 2998-1 may be the single best-preserved straight lug Speedmaster in the entire world. BRAVO!
Ordinarily, one could get called out for such unabashed braggadocio. However, in the case of your 2998-1, your statement could be accurate.
