This transitional looks like it might be interesting to follow, I'm curious what it will go for. Case looks fairly good, some light polishing but still defined. Dial might look better in the flesh, with the dial itself appearing to be in pretty good condition but lume plots are partial and muddy. Hands appear correct, and at first glance I thought they were skeleton, but it actually looks like they received a poor relume at some point? 861 looks clean (to my untrained eye), period correct 27327xxx serial. BUT, that case back... could you buy a presumably '68 transitional knowing it says 145.012 inside? Also, is this a pre-moon service replacement caseback being sans-year stamped? And, what is the "GX"? I don't know about the crown or pushers, but the pushers appear new, maybe they were just cleaned at service? Speedmaster101 puts a "running" condition at $3400; deducting for the flaws, what do you all put this at? $3000? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Ome...499?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aecb50643Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
I'd say those hands were in original condition but the caseback is a new replacement. Bezel is beat up and it's not unusual to see plots like that. I wouldn't be interested at $3k though.
3K for a transitional with a new replacement case back - really? Isn´t the correct case back one of the "essentials" of this trans-ref.??
I would say that I bought a transitional that had correct everything, except the caseback and I managed to find one from a member here. Not sure if that was par or exceptionally lucky though.
The fun is over. It has been edited. You guys really have to stop using the term transitional for a transitional watch...or not... depending on what hits you would like when you google it. It was fun as long as it lasted.
Sorry @styggpyggeno1 the pun was intended, but I understand the need to clean it up, lesson learned. I was just throwing the $3k number out there to spur conversation, I have no idea what the seller will accept. So given, a caseback is needed, and hard to come by, how do you guys put a price on that, say when deducting from the 101 guide? And just for my knowledge, is that a modern service replacement caseback for a pre-moon? And what about those hands? Lume seems awful dark and greenish.
