Not sure if 1971 is considered vintage....if not, Mods please move this. Still need some advice on this one that I am admiring: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=6921480&rid=0#msg_6921480 I have a "not watchco" as below that would be my trade bait......with $ adjustment as necessary. Thanks for any and all advice.
I have owned a number of 165.024 and 166.024s (both vintage and Watchco). I also owned a 166.091. I would take the 165.024/166.024 any day over the 166.091. First, the 565 movement would be , IMO, superior to the 1002 in terms of design and quality. Second the design of the 165.024/166.024 is more appealing. The pilot line case style of the 166.091 is more bulky and less versatile. Another thing to keep in mind is value. I don't know what condition your watch is in, but if it is in similar in condition to the 166.091 in the link then is worth 2-3 times that watch. My 2c
I have both and I really do like the 166.091 mainly because it is not the typical dive watch look, but it is thick, so keep that in mind. I can tell you that I am on my third SM300 and the biggest mistakes I have ever made in my short watch collecting career was getting rid of the two SM300 I owned (sold a Watchco, and had an original with re-lumed dial). I would not trade, but this one does seem to be in really good shape and it is not often you will see these. Is your SM300 original? My recommendation would be to buy this one and keep your SM300.
