Tractors

Hey friends, I'm looking at purchasing a utility tractor in the 40hp range. Had a local dealer quote me an LS MT340HC and another local dealer quote a Mahindra 2638HST. Both with a cab, loader bucket, box blade, snowblower, and tiller.

Here's the thing: with interest rates out of control, the factory financing with Mahindra, while a more expensive tractor, turns out to be the same price over 72 months with much less interest paid.

Anyone have any experience with Mahindra? Good, bad, ugly?

I would not be disappointed if this turned into a show & tell thread for tractors 馃槑

I have not but I got a great deal on a used Kubota that had just come in as a trade-in.

It replaced my 1950s Ford 2N

Looks like beautiful woodlands. Is there a lake or stream behind the woods?

We have a couple of sand pit lakes around us but it's 95% pine barrens which is Sand and pitch pines.

Went and got a quote on the LX4020 with a heated & cooled cab, their fancy new tires, a loader bucket, 63" snowblower, 66" tiller, and 72" box blade. It's not cheap, but here's the deal: Kubota financing makes this tractor more affordable than a cheaper LS from a cost-of-capital standpoint. I'm within a couple thousand dollars of the Mahindra 2638.

Had my dear friend and lifelong farmer, Tom, walk the property with me the other evening for some insight on what the soil needs and whether this tractor would be an appropriate size for the intended application. Always good to have friends that know things!

Will probably pull the trigger on the Kubota by the end of the week. Now I need to figure a storage solution for it and was planning on building a barn anyhow. Might just have to do it sooner than expected. I don't want to risk interest rates going any higher in the spring, so now seems to be the time. Kubota has me at 2.49% for 84 months which is very good and manageable with my tradition of heavy down payments.

Noticed there are very few videos on YouTube about this new model from Kubota, aside from their product announcement stuff from the big farm show. Perhaps I'll have to record some

How much acreage are you tooling around on with that thing?

I have around 3AC and the Kubota is probably a little too big if I'm being honest, but the price was right and I'll never have to upgrade. Now if I have to work this new 17AC I've been looking it to start a campground, it might be the right size for clearing and general duty.

5.1 acres to be exact. But I intend on planting 70-80% of it. The remainder will be prepped for a dwelling and a hangar. Definitely need to move some dirt. Also, living in the snowbelt, a blower with good PTO power and a cab will be positively luxurious

She's already dusty! After the Niagara run, hurried out to the property to receive this delivery. Used what was left of the daylight to try and dial-in the 3pt to run the box blade the way I need it to run. Still learning this particular beast. I reckon I should be able to have a nice gravel driveway installed before winter. In the spring, I'll be clearing and grading a site for my house and a site for the barn. The hangar will be the last building to go up. Other than that: tilling, seeding, and growing tasty things...I need a job that doesn't work me 3800 hours each year 馃檨
Also, the primary reason I ordered a full cab was to avoid encounters with hornets & the like. I have walked this property several times and even hosted my brother's bachelor party on it; never found any of the nasty devils. Well, wouldn't you know it: I found them today. The 66 inch tiller made quick work of them. Didn't think I'd put the cab to this exact test within the first hour of running the machine, but so glad I didn't go open station!

Went and played with the tractor some more. Had my brother along to take it for a whirl. Getting implements set up to do what I need. We had a beautiful break in the weather!

I just read Consumer Reports on the Mahindra and Kubota tractors. Appears the warranty on Kubota is better, but only minimally. Best of luck with your Kubota.
