With the arrival in the shops in the UK of the Official Guide to TdF 2022 I reckon it's time to open up the discussion. My friend who brings me a French edition is in Greece this week so I do not have have feedback on French -- or even Greek? -- editions. Race begins in København in Denmark on Friday 1st July.

For those new to TdF discussion on OF there are a number of us who follow the race in real time through a variety of channels (and even by the roadside), get over-excited and post spoilers. So if you want to wait for the 11pm PDT summary to find out what happened then it's better not to read this thread until the following day.

So for the Maillot Jaune, I see it being worn by a Czech in Paris. Yeah, not sticking my neck out here😉

Caz is in good form, will he race? We only find out for sure from the team in the last week in June.

How about posting what channels are live or do summaries and, if known, which countries they work in?

Wife and I are usually on vacation during July but we subscribe to Peacock which is the streaming service for NBC in the US. They will put up the race about an hour after completion which is mid to late morning in the US, so we can fire up the laptop or tablet and stream it at our convenience, fast forwarding through the ads. As I recall from last year you can choose the US feed or the European feed, just depending on who you want to listen to.

In Canada and I miss the US coverage. Have been watching live on Flo-Sports for a couple years.

Big cycling fan here, although I hardly ever watch the grand tours live because I'm working during the week and I'd rather get out on my bike at the weekends during the summer!

For the TdF in the UK, ITV4's daily highlights programme (7pm, and on-demand) is the go-to. Extended highlights really well presented with commentary in Gary Imlach's inimitable style..

It's a pity no-one wears watches in the pro peloton these days. It's always fun spotting (what are now) vintage pieces on the wrists of riders in 50s - 70s footage.

If I can get in front of a TV (don't have one at home) I take the live coverage on ITV4, which is probably restricted to the UK. If not there is live text and photos coverage on https://www.cyclingnews.com with good commentary & pics, but I don't know about location restrictions. That's very handy for phone coverage on the move. They do the Grand Tours and the Monuments live too, so that's one to check out. Last time I was in France was 2018 and the TV coverage was either Canal2 or Canal+ -- sorry can't remember, I just find the channel on the TV and that's the only thing we watch. And, of course in France, you can go into any bar.

Last year my work was pretty quiet and I was able to arrange things so that I could work in t,he morning and catch a lot of the live coverage. That was a joy and compensated for the somewhat southerly income. This year my work has picked up strongly so I think I’ll be restricted to the highlights show on ITV 4.

I hope Cav rides and picks up that win. Somehow though I don’t think Patrick Lefevere is particularly sentimental and my money is on Fabio Jakobsen for the sprinter’s spot unless he gets ill or injured.

If Cav stays in the grupetto over the next couple of high Giro stages then I don’t expect to see him at the start line of the TdF - Ewen quit before hitting the high mountains to prepare, so unless something bad happens to Jacobsen (a la Bennett in ‘21) the team will stick to its plan. I quite like the idea of CAV and the Cannibal being level anyway 😁

Like @Duracuir1, I pine for the VS/OLN/ Sportsnet coverage Canadians enjoyed for many years. FloBikes can kiss my well-worn saddle - and the anatomical bits that it supports. I simply refuse to pay extortionate rates to watch the Tour. Last year, I bought a SurfShark VPN and enjoyed the SBS feed from Australia.

Looks like Robbie’s big mouth just lost him the colour commentators chair. Idiot. I sure miss Phil and Paul (RIP).

Pretty sure the last couple of years Alaphillipe has worn a Richard Mille.

I think that’s because they discovered that those watches ran faster than they were supposed to.

Bumping this 'cos the first stage, a 13.2km ITT, is tomorrow Friday 1st July. First rider at 14:00 UTC.

With Mark Cavendish's contract ending this year and him not included in the Quick Step team I wonder how hot his phone has been ringing from other teams....

Hmmm. Not very hot I think. Nobody with a decent train will put it to his service at this stage in his career, so it's going to be non-sprint teams to whom he can bring some publicity and maybe a few maverick wins.

Can't believe it is that time of year already.
I'll be streaming on Peacock.
